Pug Owners in Bahrain

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c1/Fawn_pug_2.5year-old.JPG

Hello all,

I was wondering if there are any Pug-breed dog owners in Bahrain. I am expecting to have my dog in Bahrain soon (she is currently in the UK) and when I was back in the UK, we used to get together once a month to socialise and share experiences. Socialising also good for the dogs as well.

Now I know the summer is coming and it is not good for the dogs to be out in the heat during summer, but until then, it would be good to arrange something.

ohhhh what a LOVELY creature!!!  I have a Doberman...:o

Pugs are cute! We are going to miss our mutt terribly when we move in feb so if you ever need anyone to dogsit we would love to. I hope she doesn't mind the plane ride, she will be so excited to see you.

Thanks for the offer silver356. Let's meet when you come to Bahrain.

Hi. My friend lives in Riffa. She has a pug and another dog that I don't think anyone knows what it is lol.

Silver why don't you bring your dog with you? I brought my two cats. Couldn't have moved without them.

We thought long and hard about bringing our dog but she was a maltreated dog we adopted from the pound and is quite timid, we thought moving might be too traumatic for her. She will stay with family so we will still get to see her.

Good decision but I panicked like crazy about my cats. 22 hours in a crate with no toilet facilities. They strolled out of their cage like they had been in it 10 minutes. They are both lay next to me as contented as can be.
You know your pet better than anyone and you are doing the right thing for all of you. I hope you have many happy visits when you go back home.

Yeah, it's the flight that scares me - she has done a 2 hour flight and was shaking and didn't want to come out of the crate when we picked her up. Glad your cats made it ok. What do you do with them when you go away, leave them with friends or a cattery?

Jo shouldn't you be in a contented slumber like your cats now?

The flight scares me too. My dog is used to staying on her own but no longer than 3-4 hours. I don't think this will be a problem, but if it does, there is nothing I can do to help her. The flight is a good 6-7 hour flight and with all the checks and everything, it is likely to be 10 hours.

I've asked whether they can give them a sleeping pill of some sort, but the answer was no. Apparently it's not good for the animal if they put them to sleep during the flight. I don't know why but that was the answer.

If your pug is not the timid nervy type she will hopefully get over any trauma pretty quickly.  Surely the staff will give them water before and after the flight. At least she won't have to spend 30+ days in quarantine like many countries. Very exciting for both of you.

The animals can't have sleeping pills as when on a plane your blood pressure drops. When taking sleeping tablets your blood pressure drops. So animal will die mid flight.

The animal is likely to be in its crate for a minimum of 18 hours.

There will be a water bowl fixed to the inside of the crate and a funnel leading to it on the outside. The crew top up their water just before the plane sets off.

The animals are not allowed to be touched from when you hand them over at Heathrow (or airport you use) until they are delivered through your front door.

The animal should have no food the day of travel (if a night flight) or the day before travel (on a day flight)

As the hold of a plane maintains a constant temperature and is pitch black the animal tends to sleep for the whole journey.
I put a thick vet bed into the crate and there was one little wee that one of the cats had done right at the back of the crate and that was it. Both cats strolled out of their crate into their new home and had a drink, a bit of food and used their litter trays.
I know that I stressed throughout the journey but they were fine.

When I go away I use Delmon Kennels to look after the cats. I also used them to sort out the import of the cats to Bahrain as it is a very long, hard process. Can take easily up to 3 months

I haven't even started the process yet. 3 months?! Don't say that Jo :(

It is for cats as they need two doses of rabies and 2 doses of tri cat. The spacing between this jabs in about 2 months for all four injections

Rabies

2 weeks rest

Tri Cat

2 weeks rest

Rabies

2 weeks rest

Tri-Cat

The last injection has to be given over a month to take effect and then they can travel.

REGULATIONS FOR TAKING A PET DOG OR CAT TO BAHRAIN

Bahrain does not quarantine healthy pets who meet the following requirements:

You must first obtain an Import Permit prior to bringing your pet to Bahrain. Your pet must also be microchipped with a 15 digit ISO pet microchip. If your pet's microchip is not ISO 11784/11785 compliant, you can bring your own microchip scanner.

Dogs must be vaccinated against rabies, canine distemper, parvo, hepatitis and Leptospira. Cats must receive the rabies vaccine and the tri-cat vaccines.

The most recent of a minimum of two vaccinations for rabies must have taken place at least one month but not more than six months prior to travel. This rule would be different if you are having a Blood Titer Test done in order to avoid quarantine.

After the last vaccination, a USDA (or CFIA) accredited veterinarian must then complete the Bahrain Veterinary Certificate for endorsement by the USDA or CFIA if traveling from the United States or Canada. If you are traveling from another country, the Governmental Authority should endorse the forms. A copy of the Rabies Certificate should also be included. A Ticks & Tapeworm Test must be administered by your veterinarian just prior to travel. This completes your cat or dog passport for Bahrain.

Wow, thanks for that information Jo, it really is a process. I feel better about my decision not to bring our timid little dog. I might show your post to the kids so I'm not the mean mum they think I am.

As long as your dog is happy then that is the main thing. I couldn't leave my cats behind it would have killed me but trust me it was the most stress I have ever been in my life.

Hi there

I would love for my pug to meet other pugs... please contact me on here when you have your baby here

Who are you flying her with? I hope she gets here safe and happy

J :D

I haven't decided yet, but I think it's either going to be KLM or Lufthansa.

Gulf Air are the best airline when it comes to exporting/importing animals.

I had daily emails from a gent who worked for Gulf Air Cargo department. He gave me the details of the vets in Bahrain that have to check your dog at the airport. He even went to visit the vet on my behalf as some of the instructions were not clear.

KLM is usually a stop over flight as is Lufthansa - your animal will become more upset due to being offloaded from one plane and made to wait in it's crate for the second leg of the journey. Your animal could be in the crate for more than 24 hours.

As always, very useful information from Jo. Thanks! I didn't know Gulf Air transports pets, will certainly look into it.

I will help you every step of the way. You work long, hard hours and I don't. Just call me and I can get the wheels in motion for you and let you know what your family at home need to be doing.

Can't wait to take her for walks when she arrives

Could anyone please find me a pug I live in Bahrain .. contact me on 36424442 whatsapp or call.. I really need one guys thank you 😘

Instead of buying a new pet, consider adopting one. There are hundreds of lovely pets waiting to be adopted. Check BSPCA or Tony the Dogfather. You'll do much better this way.

As a pug owner, I also don't think the climate in this region is good for pugs. For good 4 months of the year, they will suffer the heat if not taken care of carefully. That's why I decided not to bring my pug from the UK. She is much happier there now.

I think Brightonguy meant the climate here is NOT good for pugs.

Never buy a pet here, they are stolen to order and a lot of people suffer. Go visit Tony the dogfather or the BSPCA. Another page on facebook is Bahrain pets for adoption although the admin aren't very good and it is rarely updated
