Transportation. York to Sheffield.

Hello,

Me and my family are moving to York in the autumn to study for our MA degree. We will be living in York, where my girlfriend will study, but I will be commuting to Sheffield to study there.

What I wanted to ask people is whether it would be cheaper to buy a car than to commute by train? I think I know the answer to this question, but I just wanted to ask in case.

Best wishes from Iceland,
Johann

Trains are getting to be silly money in the UK but, if you're going to use a car, make sure you're legal.
That means:
a valid licence for the type of vehicle you intend to drive.
Up to date (minimum third party) insurance
The registration document for the vehicle
A valid road fund licence (Tax disc)

You'd travel the A64, to the M1 south and probably get off at 34 (34A for the North of the city).
The local traffic gets bad in rush hour.
You're looking at about an hour on a good day.
