30,000 rs is the minimum legal salary for foreigners. Mauritians are paid 15,000 rs on average. But expatriates usually get more

I know for local Mauritians there are a lot of benefits given by the Goverment but as an exptriate I have to pay for my childs college education. Do you feel that 30,000 is too basic or enough to live comfortable life.

Walter, I don't even know which position you are applying for, your skills, diplomas and experience ... how could I know how much you should negotiate?

1.For working in Port louis , where is the nearest place to stay and the approx rent for 3 bedroom apt or a duplex.
2. Just for informations where do mostly Indian expatriates live.

If you see my first post I have mentioned that my offer includes accomodation and transport to my office. That mean I have to buy a car for personal travel. I have read almost all the post even in other forums. It gives cost of comodties , but does not answer a simple question as to how much salary is okay for an expatirate to live with his family with or without accomodation. The salary should be for a comfortable live and not for luxroius life.I have read some post of 2008 where it is mentioned that MUR 30,000 as good salary but considering the inflation the situation changes every month. If 50,000 is good now could be okay or basic in Dec. I am not aware of the inflation rate there.

I'm considering to move to Mauritius soon, we are a family of 3 (me, my husband a and our 3 years child) and I think 50.000 rs is enough for a comfortable life, if you have an accomodation and a transport to work.
Consider you have to face costs as medical insurance (if you don't have in your contract) for all your family, a school for your child and everyday life expenses.
30.000 is not enough but 50.000 is ok!

Since the company is giving me a car. How long does it take to get a driving licence. I currently don't have a car driving licence but I do have a motor cycle licence. I know I will have to join a driving school, but approx how much time does it take and is the proceedure very difficult.

Certainly u can live on 30 or 50K! But a good expat package
is about Rs100,000, with all expenses paid. Thats general
rule for the government to give a company permission to
employ expats!

But it up to negotiation skills etc n position.

dont forget that you will probably might want to leave
for somewhere else, so you should be able to put aside
saving for relocations or visiting parents or home!
