Hi Everyone!
My name is Anne, I'm an American currently living in Thailand, and I am looking to move to the Czech Republic in April to become an au pair for a wonderful family with two little girls. I am however running into some issue figuring out what kind of visa I should get, and was wondering if there was anyone out there who would be able to give me a simple run down of the easiest way to do it all.
I am looking to stay in the Czech Republic for a year, but Ideally, I'd like to be able to take a few short week long holidays to different places in Europe, both in the Schengen area and outside it during the year, but I have no concrete plans.
From the research I have done, I do not think I can obtain a work permit, since I am arranging my work directly with the family, not an agency, however, if I can, I would be eager to do that, as I think it might simplify my life while living in the CR. An education visa is also not an option for me, as I do not have the funds, nor necessarily the desire to take a language course or enroll in university while I am there.
I also think that I need a type D visa, but again, that is a bit hard for me to determine. All of the official sites use so much political and technical jargon it's almost impossible for me to decipher all of the requirements and regulations. If someone could confirm or deny that assumption of mine/ point me in the right direction if I'm wrong, that would be great!
I do know however, that as an American citizen, I obtain a 90 day visa upon arrival. That being said, would I then be able to apply for a long term visa in one of the CR's neighboring countries? There is a Czech Embassy in Bangkok, but it is not possible for me to travel there until only a short time from my departure, and depending on the length of time it takes to obtain a visa (I am also unclear on those times, please help!), I am not sure that I'd have enough time.
Any help or advice you guys could give me on the subject would be extremely helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
