New members of the Namibia forum, introduce yourself here

Hi all,

Newbie on the Namibia forum? Don't know how to start?

This thread is for you ;)

We invite you to introduce yourself on this topic, to share with us your expat story if you are already living in the country, or to tell us more on your expat projects in Namibia if you are planning to move there.

It will enable us to help you better but above all to wish you a warm welcome.

Welcome on board!

My name is Amanda, I am 27 years old and met my fiancé on a volunteer trip in Namibia last year. Now I have made the move to Namibia 3 months ago. It hasn't been easy - the visa has been a struggle and I was forced back to the States (where I am now) until I can get an extension to carry me through to the wedding. Adapting has been hard because we are living in the far North, 8 hours from Windhoek. Is adapting in a place like Windhoek easier for expats from the States? I am hoping to be able to stick it out and give life in Windhoek a try (it might not be until his job placement up North ends in EIGHTEEN MONTHS!!!), but so far have been very homesick and regretting the move. We may move back to the States, but I would love some advice or words of wisdom as to how to adjust better in Namibia. Thanks :)

I all, my Name is Jeanette, I am a born Namibian. I Went to South Africa to study in Nursing. I studied At the Pretoria University Trauma and Emergency Nursing. I am married and Currently back in Namibia working In private Hospital in a casualty unit as Senior Registered nurse. Looking for more. am quite frustrated in my current position. I am strong willed and have a strong personality.  I am a Basic Life support Instructor and love to teach people. I am a helper and would do any thing to help people.  My husband working in Windhoek and is so Happy where he is. Get's noticed by his pears, because he is a hard worker and get praise for it.  I am so jealous.  happy in Windhoek. Namibia is a country that has gone through very difficult times, but now the people in Namibia can work together. there is no discrimination,  not in all the places, but overall.

Hi Amanda, Namibia is a fantastic place to live and spend your time here.  I live in Windhoek my life long and would not chose another place.  I will go and visit other places, but this is where I will stay until I die. give Namibia a chance. If you have a job or have something that can keep you busy then it is worth the try.  contact me if you need help.

Hi, we are a retired couple and live in the Western Provence. We have sufficient investments with Investec to keep us going. We will also have enough funds to purchase a property in Windhoek. Our children will not follow as our one daughter and her husband are now Canadians and have been there for 11 years. Both in the medical profession. The other daughter and her husband has a business in Bloemfontein. They are both above 40 years old. I am a keen golfer and also do mountain biking. We both love camping and spend a lot of time in the wild. Namibia will be the ideal place to spend the rest of our lives.

Hello All,
I am a 31-year old American looking to move to Otjiwarongo, Windhoek or Rundu next year. I am applying for English teaching positions in all of those areas, but my first choice is Otjiwarongo. I lived in Namibia from 2010-2012 as a volunteer, but now I'd like to work there again individually. For my first year in Namibia, I plan on teaching, but after that I'd like to work as an Education Officer or as a Curriculum Developer for schools.
