Mountain Biking

Is there a Mountain Bike club or group within the Sharbatly Village?

Nope, but there is a Shisha at the Pool club in Sharbatly instead :)

You may join Hash House Harriers - never saw anyone on a bike yet, but you can start the Hash House Bikers subgroup.

Thank you!  Could you please explain a little more what a Shisha is please, and what is the Hash House Harriers, is it a running club?

HHH is "a drinking club with a running problem...". Because admins to not tolerate posting links here - check in Wikipedia.
Same for shisha.

Thanks I will.  Can you buy kit out there?  Are there any good sporting shops in Jeddah?

There is good scuba gears in here, but not much biking stuff, I recommend the Internet like eBay, Amazon etc

I think you find some shimano old LX , XT parts.but not full kits  I haven't seen any xtrs or srams

Is it permitted to buy items into KSA from Ebay and Amazon? through the postal system!

Yes it is, but I recommend using a good postal  service like UPS, FedEx, American Express or Aramex, because things intend to get lost at the regular saudi  mail service

There is a group called "Jeddah Cyclists" that hold weekly rides, in Corniche. I think it's every Friday morning. You can find them on Facebook: facebook.com/jeddahcyclists?fref=ts

I have seen a few mountain bikes among them, but most of them ride hybrid/racing bikes. Their rides are very safe with cars that escort you along the way and it's a great way to meet people. They sometimes hold ride events in collaboration with other similiar groups.

As for buying bikes/parts, everyone suggests one shop in Sari Street, opposite Jarir Bookstore. I think it's called "Wheelz". My guess is that they are over-priced and everyone I know buys it online and ships them into Saudi.

There are plenty of good sporting shops, but not many that cater to cyclists, as cycling is a fairly new but fast-rising hobby here. Mainly due to the weather, like all outdoor activities.

Can you get hybrid bikes out in Jeddah?

Like I said, they have a limited collection of hybrid bikes/mountain bikes, but you are better-off shipping them from abroad or bringing them with you when you come to Saudi (if you are not yet in Saudi). The people at the shop that I mentioned above, will be happy to assemble it for you. I will drop-by and get back to you in a day or two.

Mountain bikes are more common here in the shops (in shops like SACO, a hardware store), maybe someone else can enlighten us on the quality of those bikes, as I don't have a clue.

Also check out the classifieds online if you can get a used hybrid/mountain bike.
Here are some online classifieds:

You should also try posting on the facebook group for "Jeddah Cyclists", for more Jeddah-specific all-things-cycling related questions.
