Hi Mal, you seem to be somewhat of an expert in the field of International Schools in Sri Lanka!

Can you please help us, we are looking for a very good English Montessori for our 4 year old, we would prefer to live near the beach, preferably in Negombo, but if there are no really good schools here, we can consider other places including Colombo as a last resort!

Any ideas?

Thanks Very Much For The Help!

Sam & Sheena.

Thanks a lot Mal!  :)

In Negombo haven't you tried these pre-schools Sam?

Thanks, Mal, we are in the process of visiting all these places, but we keep getting told by foreigners that we meet in the restaurants here in Negombo that "NICE INTERNATIONAL" is where all the foreigners go, but I don't know if it's in Negombo or farther away!

Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Sam, I forgot it. Yes N.I.C.E is a nice place for your kid. :)  It is situated in Kadirana area in Negombo.

Warning. SL schools are about 4 years behind USA schools, and the private ones are 2-3 years behind. You shoiuld check very well, because I had my kids in many, and they are just propoganda idiots, so I finally had to Home School mine kids to keep them at a manageable level. The problem is they used that old way with A/L level schooling which is worthless and the children are schooled but to educated.

I fought so much with these ignorant principals, and I continually had to teach their staff, because most SL teachers do not actually qualify as teachers in Western countries, so as long as you understand these basics you can try to put your children in something, but if you want educated children, that is impossible in SL, and that is why you see all those extra classes and courses, because the system is not sufficient to educate on its own, so the after-school education market has become so profitable.

My USA children suffered so much in SL due to the lower educational level, they were at great losses to their friends and family back home, so once we got them in a USA based home school program, they excelled back and now are back to their proper level. there is no real USA schools in SL because the system must produce a profit for local business; and after hours teacher extra income for survival, so if a USA school was there children would be educated and people would lose money. I tried to due many things, but was refused by official in the Ministry of Education because I could disrupt the economic flow and way of SL life and education.

As I said, Be Warned

Well, I had basically the same experience, trying to find a suitable school for my 4 year old, and failing, until I found SEEKERS in Mount Lavinia, just outside Colombo!

Here is a News Report about it.  They are really different!   Personal attention to the kids, very clean and neat, and most-importantly, safe!

News on Seekers

Sad that other schools for kids in Sri Lanka don't even try to keep up with western advances in teaching, etc.

Sorry I don't agree with @hookra's view. The schools are in my opinion reflecting the needs of the locals here. If you want you kid to be educated we as parent have equal responsibility as the school/teachers. I have not been to the USA but my guess is 90% of the kids or even the parents will know where Srilanka is but my kid knows a few things about Canada and Brazil that is what he learned this year and he is in Nursery !!!! This is in addition to Alphabets and numbers which is not bad at all. Some of the schools @mal has listed are good check them out, talk to the management to get their view and then talk to a few parents and you can make up your mind after that. International schools here are not the bet but they are not the worst either... just my 2 cents

Hi everyone,
We are potentially going to move with the family with one child of 3 years in Colombo.
Would be great if you can help with the best international school for 3 year old child in colombo area.
Thanks much.

I'm in Colombo. Can you recommend a very good  Mathematics teacher to Teach my kids ( 14 and 16).
