Hi Everyone
My partner and I are moving to Canberra in July this year after obtaining a skilled regional sponsorship visa. I am a Graphic and my partner is an IT Consultant, and we will be looking for jobs in our professions. The fact we are moving to the government area and can't work for the government is rather scary, but hopefully we'll find something!
Any advise on the BIG move, please let me know!

Congrats on the big move! I've not been to Canberra myself yet, but have spent 4 years living in Australia (mainly Melbourne) and love it.
You can browse jobs via seek.com.au or careerone.com.au
Did you have any other specific questions for your move you were looking to have answered?

I seriously do not think that you will get a job as gardener or housekeeper as those type of jobs are taken by locals.
You need specialist skills to qualify for a visa. For visa information and applications www.immi.gov.au

Hi Emma, I am Australian and have lived in Canberra for about 30 years. And let me reassure you that Canberra is not all government! Canberra is roughly 50% government and 50% private enterprise and I doubt that either you or your partner will find it particularly difficult to find work in the private sector in Canberra.
With regard to IT, most government jobs are actually outsourced to companies like IBM. For graphics people, there are many big, international, companies with offices in Canberra and also quite a few publishers of government newsletters and similar things that are graphics intensive and done by privately owned businesses.
