Isn't Reunion an African Island in history before the French too over?

It depends what you mean by "African".
The island was uninhabited by anyone until 17th century.

hi all,

Though we are French, sometimes we feel close to africans. It's very ambiguous. Most of us,reunionese, have ancestors who were slaves. even the whitest person can't say that he doesn't have slaves ancestors!!!!this is hard to accept for some of us.

Blacks are the largest group here. maloya, moringue are good exemples that illustrate well our origins .Life was pretty closer to african's way of life 50 years ago. (I guess!!)

We are French but when we visit France we are not considered as French. We have to show our identity card!! .And we can't say that we are africans either for we don't know anything.

So We are reunionese from France with an african origin!
