I know quite some young professionals who left PR to go the mainland where they found a job. One of them is my beloved (step)daughter who lives and works in Miami, another is the guy 'round the corner who did pretty good as a shade tree mechanic but makes more than double in Texas where he is a supervisor in a solar panel installation company.
