Hey all,
So this is a little ways in advance but I am trying to think about things in the future a little bit. I am currently just under 20 years old, and in music school. After I graduate (in 2015), I have dreams of saving money and moving abroad. I had thoughts about Ireland, as a musician I find Ireland to be a bit of an attention grabber. However, Wales and Scotland seem wonderful to me as well. So I guess what I want to hear is any experiences you have, and any advice you may have for me to do with jobs, work visas, renting a place to live, etc. Thanks in advance!

Your best chance of getting a work visa is if you are a skilled orchestral musician. So you need to advance your career to this point in your own country before you have a realistic chance of moving.

I'm not necessarily looking to get a job playing music, especially right away. I'm just looking more general, about getting a job in order to live over there.

If you are Canadian, you should check out the working holiday visa or the ancestry visa which would allow you to do any job you can find. If you were American for example, these options would not be open to you. See http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/ for details.

Awesome. The ancestry visa looks like something I could use. My dad's mother was born in Wales so I believe I am eligible for that. How is it for getting work in the UK? I would assume your location would determine the ease of finding employment, but in general is it easy or hard?

It's difficult to get a job in the UK without UK work experience which makes it difficult to get UK work experience which makes ... etc. So, typically you have to start at the bottom with temporary casual work or even unpaid voluntary work.
