Saltillo area knowledge

Hi,

I'm a newbie to the forum but I've been in Mexico (from the U.S.) for 11 years now.  We currently live in Chiapas but would really like to be closer to the border for the purpose of easier and cheaper trips into the U.S. to see family.

Several years ago we spent a couple of nights in Saltillo, Coahuila and thought it seemed a nice little town.  It didn't seem too large but large enough for a few modern (Americanized) conveniences.

I would be very interested in hearing your comments on Saltillo and the surrounding area, especially if you're living there currently.  We're looking for an economical place to live and my understanding is that the southern part of town might fit the bill.
