Visa to settle in Malta as non-EU passport holder with UK residency

Hello,

I hope someone can help me.

My husband and I are planning to move to Malta this year with our 1 year old son.
I am a Japanese national who has permanent residency (resident visa holder) in the UK. My husband is a Spanish national and therefore he holds EU citizenship and so does my son.

I believe they do not need to apply any special visas before they move to Malta but I think I need some kind of visa. As a spouse who holds residency visa in the UK, can I move to Malta without any special visa? If I need to apply a visa, could anyone tell me which visa I need to apply?

Any information on this would be truly helpful.

Thank you!

Hi achinmonci,

as a non-EU permanent resident holder of an EU country (UK) you are entitled to travel to any other EU country without a visa.

When you arrive in Malta your EU husband will have to apply for his e-residence card and your's (as spouse) within 3 months of arrival. Best is as soon as you arrive if you intend to stay.

Cheers
Ricky
