here appartments depend on area. flats cost per month almost 800usd in a nice building. or if u wanna in good area accordingly prise increase..

Also could you give me some advice on housing, which areas are good for a family to live in and is it easy to rent a house rather than an apartment, something with a garden etc.

Do you also know about the schooling there in Almaty.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated

HI LIZ,

I advise u to take appartment. in Medeu area appartments is too good with three, four rooms. and mostly foreiners stay. If u wanna house with garden then i think its not safe (if u can take care with security then its different thing).For foreigner i not advise. U can follow this link(www.krysha.kz) and check according to ur choice appartments as well as houses near mountain. but here not easy with lang, mostly people dont no english.

u check from that link. can contact or send mail to real estate. but mostly foreigners which i knew and colleques prefer appartment(3-4 room) rather than houses... its was just my advise))

ohh sorry, about school...
here available one school where my friend sister(indians) is studing. i think its american school. i will follow up from him same and let you know as soon as possible.

Im a local=). im Kazakh. working in pharmaceutical company as a translator from last 3 years. and mostly im in abroad for work. Almaty is a small city. Located near mountain Alatau. Hope u ll like it))

the cost is approximately 1200-1800 / month( 3 room flat) usd depending on the location of the house and number of rooms.
