HI ,  My friend is staring a new business venture in Nairobi, and i m joining along. He has offered me 700 USD per month . all other travel food and rent expenses on the company. Please let me know if this amount is enuf for other montly expenses for a bachelor.

Hi ameyjaju,

Welcome to Expat-Blog :)

I have created a new thread as from your post on the Nairobi Forum for better visibility :)

Thank you

Maximilien

hi ameyjaju, 700 UDS per month is very less compared to the expenses here in Kenya, please ask him if it is net or gross, 30% tax is also deducted here. for a single person you will need at least 2000 USD, to spend, save and live a good life. also confirm if all permit costs will be payed by the company.

It isn't a great deal of money, despite the fact that all your other costs are being taken care of.

Also ensure that your friend is taking steps to obtain a work permit for you, preferably before you land in Kenya and certainly before you start work.  It is strictly illegal to work on a visitors visa and quite a risk to do so.

thnks for the swift replies...
My frnd is taking care of the work permit and other daily expenses.
So let me know...as of now...how much salary per month shud i aim to get in my hand (after tax deductions)...

I am also joining the same business, I
am ok with the money but am really concerned about how secure and expat
friendly the city is. Please share your experiences of Nairobi and its people.

There is very high unemployment in Kenya just as might be in your own countries.I understand you can only get a work permit if you have extremely specialised skills that wouldnt otherwise be available locally. This argument makes sense considering locals can easily do some of the jobs anyway.Guess might need to just stay in your India or China or Srilanka or Peru or UK or Usa and not submit an application that would be turn down
