There are a lot of furniture stores on Mombasa Road (near Panari Hotel). Nakumatt also sells furniture (often upstairs) and I know of people who have furnished their homes from there. The quality isn't the best though.
We went to 'Odds & Ends' (Mombasa Road). A bit more expensive, but 10 years later, the furniture is as good as new.
