Places to visit in Utrecht

Hi,

For the ones living in Utrecht, what would you suggest to discover the region?

When you have friends or family visiting you, where do you go with them? What are the must-see places in Utrecht, the tourist sites?

How to visit the region in an original way? Any unusual or unknown place to recommend?

What would you suggest for a couple of days of for a week of holidays in Utrecht?

Thank you in advance for participating ;)

Julie

The Speelklok Museum is a lot of fun and recommended by locals and visitors alike. Definitely take a guided tour so you can hear the various music boxes and organs.

Trajectum Lumen, a light-art display at various important locations around the city is great to see in the evening, once it gets dark. You can take a guided tour or just go on your own (maps are available at the VVV).

Climbing the Domtoren is popular if you don't mind heights. ;) You can get some great views of the whole city.

If the weather is good, definitely go to any of the restaurants on the Oudegracht where you can sit right next to the canal and dine.

There's also an Utrecht Free Tour of the city every Saturday starting at noon at the Domplein, next to the Domtoren. I think they're also now offering tours on Wednesdays at the same time and place.
