ARVN

Greetings, I am currently traveling around Hue seeing the sights.  In the past few days I have been approached by men claiming to be former soldiers and wanting to sit and talk.  I have traveled a lot in the south and this is a first for me.  Being an old soldier myself, I have no desire to speak with strangers about my service or hear about anyone elses.  The war here in Vietnam was not during my service. Has anyone else had this happen?

It happens to me a lot but from the other side. Most of my wife's older relatives fought for the north including my mother in law who carried ammo and supplies for the Viet Cong

It happens all the time. Especially once they find out you are a veteran. It's mainly curiosity for most although I do get the occasional "I was a former VC" claim even if they weren't born until after the war. Those people are usually trying to get a reaction from you and I just ignore them.
