Opening a bank account in the British virgin islands

Hi all,

is it difficult for expats to open a bank account in the British virgin islands ?

Which documents are required to open a bank account in the British virgin islands ?

How long does it take to open it ?

Is there any restriction for expats regarding the services (loans for instance)  ?

Which bank would you recommend ?

Thanks in advance for your participation,

Julien

I spent 3 days trying to get an appointment with scottiabank. I got tired and walked straight in to first bank caribbean which fixed everything relatively fast with no line and service beyond any bank i ever visited.

scottiabank does not have mobile visa terminals either, first bank does.

It seems to be much more simpler now...

We tried with Banco Popular and everything happened quite speedily. Bank Consultant handed over me my ATH card, Passbook, A/c No & deposit first funding cheque deposition slip, all in less than 30 Minutes!

I am sure other banks too have quite similar service levels! need to check!

Just few tips for expacts:

1. Be there at around 8.50 am so no waiting in long que required!
2. Carry your a. passport, b. Social Security card / No, c. Work Permitt Card, d. Deposit Amount Cash / Cheque etc.
3. Choose Account type !
