i just read recently the stories of 5 single women in CM.  They were all very happy.  Think it was in the September issue of the local expat association's newletter, which is in print, and on line.  And as an older male,  I feel than I have been in 35 years, spending most of my time contentedly in my particular neighborhood, with every amenity i would want.  CM has a very yin flavor to it, and very civilized...That's my point of view.
As long as the country stays together, CM should be all right.

ExpatNewsletter.net--you might try that---not sure of the month, and maybe in one of the other CM expat publications.
Also, at thaivisa.com, thereis a Chiang Mai forum, and also a ladies' forum, free, search or ask whatever you want.

Chiang Mai is a beautiful city and i know many expats who love to live there. The people are a bit friendlier than bangkok and its not so stressful and traffic jams are less. You will enjoy it there.

p.s. dont forget to take a trip further north to Mae Hong Sorn - amazing up there!

I have a retirement visa organised through the Lawyer company, when you get here I can put you in touch with them and they will organize everything for you.
1 year retirement visa renewable. But you can not officially work, you need a different visa for that unless the work you do is paid cash and not accountable, then you can deny working.
