It would be very useful to talk about the cost of living in Tajikistan.

Don't forget to mention where in Tajikistan you are living.

How much does it cost to live in Tajikistan?

Greetings all! I am expat regularly visiting Dushanbe (5 times during the last 2 years). So this is my quick response ! Let me know if you have specific questions ! Will happy to help out ! And hang around with you in Dushanbe over a glass of beer :)

> accommodation prices:

You can rent apartments from as cheap as monthly $150 in the suburbs to monthly rate of $800 in the very heart of the city.
The last option is obviously preferred, since LOCATION does matter for quality of life including 24/7 electricity and water supply, proximity to expat-oriented cafes and restaurants, safety (I generally find Dushanbe to be a very safe place). Apartments for this rate ($800) are normally well furnished and equipped with air-conditioner, laundry machine, Sat TV, etc. Of course there are more expensive options, but why would you need that !?

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc ...)

Public transpiration is very cheap to discuss. Special note on Taxis - do bargain and do find out the "normal" rates for most common routes so that you are not charged as a "foreigner". For most central city drives expect to pay smoething like $2 to $6 dollars. In addition, there ae many the so called "shared-taxis", that have specic routes (like say buses), and they pick up passengers as they go - these are really great and charge only $0.70 (3 somoni).

> food prices(per month, how much does it cost you?)

Food costs really depend on your habits. Most economical is to cook at home of course.
I use the combination of home cooking and cafes, restaurants and that costs me around $500 monthly.

> health prices (for those who need medical insurance)

No idea.

> eduction prices (if you need to pay)

No idea.

> energy prices (oil, electricity)

Very cheap, I add some $10 monthly to my rental bill.

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone)

Internet may cost around $30 monthly (Sat TV is usually included in your rent), and I spend around $30 monthly on my mobile phone.

> prices of a good menu in a traditional restaurant

In the range of $15 to $25 in the best places (Ukrainian, Indian, Korean, Chinese places).
Canteens (there are few good ones) will cost you $5 to $10.

> prices of a beer and or a coffee in a regular pub

Beer - $3 (Russian beer 0.5L), Coffee - $2 (double espresso)

> price of the cinema

No idea, but must be cheap

:one

So, if you get paid a salary of, say, $500 USD a month with shared housing provided (offered at one school that I've heard doesn't meet its contractual obligations), don't expect to have more than a subsistence lifestyle?
