Hi,

I'm a near-retiree considering Bali as a possibility. My wife and I will have $20-25K USD per year for living expenses. Can folks who are familiar with life in Bali give me a feel for the kind of lifestyle we could expect on that budget?

Hi Elby, from one ex-New Yorker to a soon to be ex-New Yorker. It was about 15 years ago that I made the exact move you are now considering.

Assuming your annual budget includes housing expenses, your budget is close to minimum especially if you intend to live in the more expensive southern areas of Bali.

Also, most property rentals here are paid in full and in advance for 10 or more year segments. Monthly rentals are not commonplace here, but they can be found.

If you and your wife are 55 or older you can apply for the retirement KITAS visa which is the cheapest residency visa (on a per year basis) available here.

What you want can be done, but it will take a lot of homework and luck.
