Bringing your dogs back home

Greetings all,

If anyone would like to have information on how to bring your local dogs with you when you leave Mauritius, please feel free to send us an e-mail off-line. We recently went through this process with our two dogs (including blood-tests, rabies jab, vet check etc) and would be happy to pass on our experiences.

All the best,
J&J

To what Country are you returning too?
UK, South Africa?

I know it is quite easy to take dogs back to the UK but not sure about other Countries.

Maybe you should do a blog about your experiences of taking a dog back to your Country?

Best Wishes

Good idea Rosiewestie!

Our final destination was Singapore - which was predictably strict with regards to the importation of animals from the African region. We needed to have our pets chipped and given an anti-rabies vaccine which was then required to be tested after 30 days via a blood samples which must be sent to South Africa. This would then be valid for 6 months. If you don't fly within that period you would need to repeat the process from the beginning.

Assuming you are within the 6 months however, immediately prior to your flight, you must then take your pet to the Ministry for a cursory check by their vet who then stamps a certificate of health necessary for transit. Your pet would then be placed in its travel crate (difficult to source these on the island though!) and it's off to the airport.

If landing in Singapore, you are then required to quarantine your pets for 30 days although the housing facilities are excellent (you can request ac!) albeit pricey.

Happy travels!
