Doctors and hospitals

Hello everyone

I really need some advice regarding hospitals and specialists. i have read the forum on medical care and got some info...but just need more.
We are on Tawuniya medical aid and apparently covered for Kingdom Hospital.
I have a four year old daughter.
We live opposite iman university.

DOCTORS....please recommend....
1. a good paediatrician
2. a physician or family GP
3. dentist
4. periodontist
5.gynaecologist/obstetrician - who specialises in premature births (pref female)
5. A good dermatalogist (pref female)

HOSPITALS....some questions....
1. Is Kingdom a good hopsital? Is it overpriced?
2. What are the other good hospitals that have excellent doctors and facilities?
3. Which hospitals have neo-natal ICU faciltiies and paediatric surgeons

I know there are lots of questions, but please respond an any of the questions you know about.

I really need advice.

I am quite nervous to go to the hospitals and doctors because I am not sure about qulaifications here and level fo health care. Sorry, just new expat nerves and being in a foreign country. We have quite good medical care in South Africa, so I have no idea how this compares

any advice and especially, personal experience, would be a great help.

THANK YOU

there is a good Dentist and Orthodontist in Humrah, King Abdulla Road, if you need his details i could forward you the same. he has been treating our family and friends and we are quite satisfied with his services, anyway good luck, you will get used to this place eventually, i didnt require much services of other doctors so cant say.

Dear SihamSolomon
I can understand your concern. We are also covered with the same insurance company. All major and good hospitals are are covered by this insurance company. I agree with the fact that you have to look into the doctors before you actually start visiting them. I would propose the following:

1) there is a specialist center operated by Kingdom hospital where they have specialist for almost every thing. You can find more details on their website. Just google and you will find it.
2) Saudi German and british hospitals can also be looked into for better doctors on thier panel.

I hope this will atleast give a direction to look into. Hope this works.

Hey, great questions so don't apologise.  I for one totally understand where you are coming from.  I will need to pm you on this as I have had surgey at Kingdom Hospital and I have friends in Riyadh with young children who have had to use the hospital.  There are very mixed reviews and for my experience, I had a great op but the aftercare was appalling and resulted in a recommendation of another operation which was totally unnecessary.  I will explain more in the pm, but let us just say - "thank goodness for great and determined friends"!

I have lived in South Africa and my husband is South Africa and I can tell you, you will not get the same level of care, treatment or anything here - so let us manage your expectations from now.

However, there are a range of very competent services that you can have some confidence to trust.  Due to my experience and of friends here we have been working on a directory based only on direct experience of "Western" expats.  Now, before all the other expats go up in arms on the "western" reference.  I am not being prejudice, I am being realistic in reference to comparing western practices to those in the Kingdom as we can only compare against what we are used to.  No doubt, there WILL be an "eastern" expat experience as well.

Anyway, we haven't completed the directory yet - we planned to have it for end of Sept when everyone was back from holidays.  Also a European/American friend (couple) of mine is having their baby here in Riyadh, they has changed their specialist once during their current antenatal and they are still happy to have the baby here.  I directly know 3 western women how have had their babies in the Kingdom; so again, there are some good reports and recommendations that can be made.

Sorry for the essay, I will put some stuff together and pm you.  Once I have the broader overview, I plan to write it up on this blog site anyway so everyone can have the benefit.

thanks everyone
