Re: Moving to Belfast in Sep... any tips???

Belfast is a lovely city...not too big and not too small. However it still has some remenants from 'the troubles'. I would advise making sure you know a little bit about the history of the city because Belfast is one of the few places I have been where it's history is very important in understanding the way it functions as a community today. For example any time I have been there and out in the evening...even on a Friday or Saturday Night the place is deserted...we got out of a concert one Saturday at around 10pm and where as in any other place I have been there is life Belfast was dead. This isn't because it has no night life but I think cause people  still remember the troubles. Hopefully it is relaxing smile Check out also about the areas cause I am not sure if there are still areas based on religion but I hope not...I hope the peace process has changed that. Other then that remember if you take a trip south to the Republic that ther currency changes smile

Re: Moving to Belfast in Sep... any tips???

Hi Nani,

I'm from Belfas and have lived here all my life but I am travellig to Saudi to work in a few weeks.

Firstly, Belfast is like any other city in th UK. Yes, we have gone through the ' troubles', and I'd like to say that they area over but there are always small groups that want to drag things out!!!

Anyway, there's plenty of nightlife, culture and fun to be had. If you need to knoe where to go, please feel free to ask and i'll point you in the right direction. Failing that, Belfast people are friendly, so you'll have no problem finding whatvere you area looking for.

Cheers,

JayK.

Re: Moving to Belfast in Sep... any tips???

I am a recent transplant to Belfast from California. I would advise bringing plenty of warm clothes and layer your outfits. The lack of sunshine can be hard to take. Especially coming from someplace warm. I find the people helpful but not too friendly. It's hard to make friends. Researching the city and finding a place to call home is a very good idea. There is lots of culture and night life and good dining. It is expensive. You will miss your regional cooking! I know I do. Keep an open mind, and accept the differences in culture. Enjoy your time here and get out of the city to explore Northern Ireland. it is rich in history and beauty.
