Venice literature - does it do it justice?
As an almost-expat, hoping to relocate to Venice in the next 6 months, I'm asking current expats, or others like me, whether books on Venice can ever capture the true essence of her?
I've just found a wonderful book that offers a dark, mysterious side to Venice called The Glassblower of Venice by Marina Fiorato, that gives another dimension to the endless drones of tourist-attraction desperation. She's half Venetian apparently, so has an interesting take on the city's perceptions but also her own life there.
I think it will be helpful for me when I move to know what other's opinions are of how Venice is thought of in books compared to what it's like as the home of a citizen.
How does literature do her justice?
Any other thoughts?
