Socials for oldies and newbies

I've started this topic so anyone who wants to meet new people or just have a good night put can see what's organised and suggest meetups if they like. We have a few other topics already like this but not everyone knows about them so I  thought a new one might help.

I've planned the next social at Alain Le Notre on Thursday 5th May from 8 pm. Click on the link (it should work now...) for location details. It's the Zamalek branch in Nile City (Alain Le Notre website)

Hope to see all you newbies there since you're all asking for meetups on the forum wink

Don't be afraid to propose meetings guys and gals, it's not rocket science, you just have to be proactive about it smile there are lots of friends out there waiting to meet you!

Elaine

Re: Socials for oldies and newbies

I know that there have been other 'meet-ups' planned on expatblog before and as much as I'd enjoy meeting new people, I can't help but feel paranoid that, this being a public forum and all, some individuals many try to take advantage and spoil an honest gathering.

Re: Socials for oldies and newbies

Hey Panda bear,

I understand what you mean, but I finally managed to attend one (though briefly) and it was great. Maybe DM someone on the blog that you know will be going and relatively trust and swap mobiles and then meet up before hand, or bring a friend and if it's not what you expected you can peace out. Sorry to miss out on this one though...last day of teaching. Elaine, I'll txt you if I can join after class to see if you guys are still there. Have a great day all.

cheers,
J.

Re: Socials for oldies and newbies

Hi,
many people are going to the Couch Surfing bowling meet up on Friday (Check the separate forum topic for details) so I haven't organised a separate social this weekend. The following weekend I think we should do something the following Thursday or Friday (assuming we survive the paintballing...!)
Any suggestions for Friday (20th) anyone?
Otherwise I'll suggest something smile

Elaine

Re: Socials for oldies and newbies

OK thanks, that's fine if it's what the majority want smile I'm not really into dancing, so personally I prefer just chatting in a nice relaxed atmosphere, but some places have both. Concerts are fun, agreed, but need more organising and may not be to everyone's taste. Anyone know of any events happening on the 20th or 21st?

Looks like we're making progress and the forums are become active!

So...

- Bowling on Friday 13th
- Paintballing on Friday 20th (as suggested by Amgad)

What about horse-riding on the 27th? Another expat blog  member (Boby moon) owns stables and I have ridden  in the desert close to Saqqara pyramids, and it was fantastic - thoroughly enjoyable. Some may consider his prices as being steep, BUT the horses are PERSONALLY looked after in such a wonderful way, and are beautiful. (Okay, I'll stop advertising... just thought I'd put it out there for anyone interested. smile)

Horse-riding, good suggestion :-) Sadly I'll be away for two weekends from that date, but if you can organise it I'm sure you'll get some attendance smile I'm all for supporting people who take care of their animals properly wink Thanks my dear

Re: Socials for oldies and newbies

ok so Paintballing on Friday the 20th in the afternoon - can we have some definite numbers please? I think I need to book in advance. Post on here by Wednesday if you're up for it.

I also propose a social at the Marriott hotel in Zamalek (it's one of my fav places wink) on Thursday 19th from 8pm, in the palace gardens. This way it'll be before we're bruised and battered from paintball! big_smile

Hope to see lots of you there.

Elaine

Re: Socials for oldies and newbies

Hey, I'm really interested in these socials, my parents are Egyptian but I grew up in England, and apart from family, friends from play school days in Egypt, and work colleagues, i'd love to socialise with people from England who i'm more familiar with! Please let me know about any socials! Thanks

Re: Socials for oldies and newbies

I guess that the first one will be there just tell the waiter if someone asked about the "Expat-Blog group/table" he should guide her/him to it.

maybe "Expat-Blog group/table" would be hard for the waiter to remember, we can just agree on a name or anything!!!

Re: Socials for oldies and newbies

Ok I'll get there as early as I can, I'll aim for 7 smile I guess I can eat out to save time! Choose a table near the exit from reception so it's easy to see people. You'll recognise me I hope. I'll bring my Egyptian flag and stick it somewhere visible (no jokes please). There are way too many waiters and they're disorganised so having a table name won't help wink
See you tomorrow!

Hey Elain,
I'm definately in for the Marriot gathering. I love the place. It's very relaxing. I could be there at 7 pm if that's when everyone will meet. I'm sure we'll have a great time!

See everyone then.
