Health care in Romania

Hello everyone,

One among the various issue that many expatriates usually raise is Health Care. So, I think it would be very interesting and helpful to start a topic about Health.

   > So, can you please list some of the private clinics & public hospitals in  Romania?

   > What about dental care? May be some tips about the costs?

   > Some addresses of Eye care clinic, opticians will also be welcomed!

   > Some addresses of pharmacies around  Romania will also be useful.

Do not hesitate, to add more related items to the list.

Thanks in advance for your participation!

Re: Health care in Romania

Hi!

Welcome to Romania! I'll try to answer your questions although I'm by no means an expert, being an expat myself (I'm Romanian but working abroad).

Hospitals:
Medsana (http://www.medsana.ro/) and Medicover (http://www.medicover.com/roro/) are very good private hospitals. Unfortunately their websites don't have English versions, so you'll need someone who speaks Romanian to walk you through their services. If you are employed in Romania, your employer can buy a health plan for you which includes a bunch of work-ups you get for free in order to prevent and detect any illness. There are also specialised clinics depending on what you're suffering of.
I wouldn't recommend going to public hospitals; usually it involves a lot of waiting and paperwork.

Dental care:
It will be considerably cheaper than in Western Europe/US. http://www.drserban.com/tarife-stomatologie.php lists rates for various services, but again, they're only in Romanian (you'll get a lot of that here smile). http://www.clinicistomatologice.ro enlists all sorts of dental centers in Bucharest and Romania.

Eye care:
There's a bunch of them, but I wouldn't know which one to recommend.

Pharmacies: Catena, Sensiblu, HelpNet are a few chains.

Hope that helps. Have a wonderful stay and let me know if I can help with anything else.

Laura

Re: Health care in Romania

Hello
I have just joined and I am hoping to move to Romania.
I am interested in private health insurance but wondered if there was much point if I am not moving to Bucharest?
Thanks
Sarah
