Re: Living in Fribourg
Hi Everyone,
As I said before - I am preparing to move to Fribourg some time in the summer, and quite recently visited the place. We found the town extremely quiet on Friday and Saturday night; from various posts on the internet we imagined a bustling and vibrating town. Nothing of that sort, which is not necessarily a bad thing for us.
Coming from the UK and being an mildly-asthmatic non-smoker I find the restaurants a real pain - despite having non-smoking areas, you are exposed to the smoke regardless your (and the restaurant's) efforts. Same applies to the the shopping centres.
We also could not believe that the live wires can stick out from the ceilings of some 'for rent' apartments we were looking at.
As somebody mentioned somewhere on some blog - this must be a cultural shock to start a life there, however - being a 'seasoned' immigrant already - I suppose we will manage somehow.
I would be really interested to hear some more comments on the life in Fribourg - and I must stress i am more interested in practicalities of everyday living than in the drinking nights out. Having said that - we would love to enroll to an 'Alpine Society', 'Skiing society' or something like that.
I am looking forward to hearing from the fellow Fribourg Expats...http://www.expat-blog.com/forum/img/puntoolbar/smooth/bt_smilies.png
Cheers!

Re: Living in Fribourg
Hi there,
Fribourg is a quiet town. There are some good concerts in Frisson, but do not expect everyday.
I think the whole switzerland is full of society, so if you want to join the "club Alpin Suisse" you can be out every WE discovering moutains and sports. same for cycling, climbing, sailing, try to find a society.
Mid 2009, Restaurants will be non smokers

Re: Living in Fribourg
There are several groups for expats in Fribourg, see the forum on meetup.com/meetupfribourg for some links. Now restaurants are non-smoking, it is a great relief. The place to meet is Paddy O'Neill's bar. Graham
