Moving to Shaoxing.

Hello everyone,

I am moving from Ireland to Shaoxing next week.  The job is through a third level institution I am working at.

I only got offered this last week so it is all happening pretty quickly.  Any advice on moving to China, any essentials you think I might forget or if anybody knows anything about the area please let me know.

I'm very excited, but very nervous so any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Hi marawdge,

Congratulation! You new office in Shaoxing, may mean you are working in garment industry. Shaoxing is a nice city, good at fabric production, there are a lots of fabric market at Keqiao, the town of Shaoxing, that is one of biggest of China.

And Shaoxing city also is a live specimen of China culture in old type of China building, you can find some nice place there. another city of Hangzhou is near Shaoxing about one hour by bus, that is one of the best city for living in China, beautiful place, clear street, nice people, and the foremost lake of west lake. and to Shanghai about 2 and half hours by bus.

About the language, so many young people can speak English in China. That is not a problem for you in business conversation. As everyone know Chinese food is very nice, if you like it, you can find it everywhere, if you don't, that also not a problem, there are lots of Western food restaurant there, you business partner will pleasure to show you and dinner with you if you like.

Of course, so many foreigners living in Shaoxing, you can find a lot of friends there.

So don't need to be nervous, have fun to work in Shaoxing.

Regards,
Andy

Hi...

I'll be moving to Shaoxing soon. I have been living in Beijing for 4 years, but never been to Shaoxing. How is life there? Many foreigners around? Import food products (cheese, wine, etc) readily available in some specialist stores, or not available at all? Any nice pubs/clubs?

Any feedback about life there welcome.

Cheers

Hi!
Your post caught my eye because I am interviewing with Shaoxing No.1 High School this week and was hoping to get some information on the area. My biggest questions circle around food and fitness. I have been living in Beilun for a year now and my gym was only about 200 kuai a month, is there anything comparable around that area? Also are there any pools in the area for me to get a membership in? How did you find the grocery situation living in the area? Sorry to bombard you with so many questions. If you have time please shoot me a message and I look forward to hearing from you.
Respectfully,
Darion R. Smalls
