Re: Day rates for construction superintendent
I take it you're an American or Canadian resident? IF so, I have had plenty of friends go to Iraq for numerous reasons. Most likely you're going to be working in conjunction with Raytheon, Black Water, Titan, or one of the many other companies charging the American public $65 for a six pack of Coke.
One particular friend of mine did a year in Iraq as a truck driver. He came back with $100,000 USD in cash, all tax free with full health care and life insurance for his year long duration... Of course, after seeing the atrocities that Raytheon did, he decided not to stay another year.
Another friend went over working for some comapany as a firefighter. His duties were basic search and rescue, oil well fires, and teaching the basics to the newly formed Iraq Fire Department. Basic pay started at $110,000 per year tax free, of course will full amenities.
Expect a nice pay cut as contractor. For a six month tour, I would think something like $50,000 USD would be right.
...Another bump to another ancient thread.

Hey Pricey,
I saw your post and assume your competition! Just kidding. There are plenty of jobs out there. I am also a Electrical professional but I specialize in construction management of systems. The rates that lusos gave you are quite accurate. Keep in mind that they also give you a stipend for travel which you might not get as the contract is only for 6 months. But they do take care of your living expenses and pay for your relocation. Additionally, depending on your situation. You may have no tax liability here in the US for the income you make overseas. (This is not always the case). Good Luck with your job search. I'm currently on "extended vacation" in thailand as I don't want to pay taxes on anything above the $80k that is exempt.
If your a free spirit and can "overlook" some of the questionable "ethics" of some companies you will be fine. Some people can't.
