I arrived in Katowice from St Louis, Missouri in January. I'll be working/teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts as well as collaborating with the Chorzow culture center on a few projects. I've lived in Japan (3 years), and traveled for shorter stays (2-5 weeks) in China, Greece, India, France, Spain, as well as lived all over the united states. Moving to warsaw in October  for a two-year masters program.

My name is Simon. I am an Italian expat living and working in London. I've been in the UK for about 11 years. My best friend is Polish and after a few trips to Poland I think I fell in love with the Country. We were thinking about moving to Krakow and start perhaps a new life there. I guess we are both slightly sick of London, though I still love it very much.

Guys I would really appreciate your opinions on the matter, I worked in customer service for a long time, I am a train manager for the underground here. But I had enough of it. I have a BA in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies, and a MA in Interpreting and Translation.

Do you think I could possibly find anything in Krakow?

What about life there?

I don't know why for some odd reason I am super excited about the whole thing.

Hello everybody I am considering a move to Poland...I have been to many cities Troj miasto area, poznan, wroclow, katowice, and Krakow. I was wondering if anybody knows of good approaches to taking in terms of looking for employment or what industries hire more foreign nationals in which cities for different occupations?

My husband and I are planning to move to Poland. City hasn't been determined because I prefer to have my own plot of land and don't do well being squeezed into apartments. Good morning! or should I say Dzien dobry!  My husband, cocker spaniel Lucy and I moved to Gdansk six weeks ago yesterday. What a beautiful country!  My husband had a great opportunity with his company and we took a leap of faith and moved from Orange County California with out ever having been here. Crazy right... I would love to meet English speaking expats in the Gdansk area. I see most people on this site are living in other cities. If anyone is moving to Gdansk or knows English speaking expats in Gdansk area, I would love an introduction. This is our second overseas move, we lived in Bangalore India for over four years. I knew it would be quite different moving to Poland but must admit I was unprepared for the lack of expat support communities in this area  So guess we will just have to start one.
I teach both traditional and Christian yoga and am also a certified ESL teacher. Hoping once I get a bit more settled will be able to share both of these.

Welcome to  Krakow.
I hope you like the city. From my experience, the beginnings abroad are very difficult. It is good therefore that you are reaching to make new friends. However, it would be good to write something about yourself to find "relevant" people e.g. you age. It is much easier to relate to people of approximately the same age, then a nearly anonymous post.

My husband works for the Software company, so you both may have some common language to speak (lol) once he is in the country. He is working for Red Hat and unfortunately is travelling a lot...

Regarding learning Polish, I would urge you to start as soon as possible. All service industry (restaurants, hotels et cetera) employs people with very good English skills. Young polish people like you also speak English. However to integrate, you will need at least basic Polish. Steve (he is English) attended lessons in school called "Varia" and he is very complementary about this school. You can find them on internet and the school is in the center.

We both moved to Krakow only 2 years ago, so I do not have any solid information about many places to rent. However, I checked the address of your work and that position gives you two choices: country side (I wouldn't recommend, but it is only me, I like the city) and closeness to the center. I heard that Ruczaj area is good (Lot's of students) and if you can afford a bit more, Ludwinow area. Kazimierz area is very good. Lots of bars and a very popular with young people. A bit less pricey and adjacent to Kazimierz is Podgorze area. Generally south, south-west and west is nicer in my view and it will be closer to your work. You can find lots of information on web. The estate agents are there ready to show you lots of possibilities. Once you talk to some, let me know if you have some questions to what procedure of renting a place is.
One thing more about that, Krakow is small and have really good public transport, therefore you do not need to rent just next to your work.

Generally, go to Kazimierz in the evening, enjoy the bars like e.g. Alchemia on Plac Nowy street. From your work it is about 15min by a car and radio-taxis are cheap. Or go and enjoy what is happening on the Rynek Glowny. Try to have fun. It will get easier.

But first, call the language school. They helped my husband to enjoy Krakow as well as learning language.

i was preparing to travel soon to Karakow from Egypt to study Polish for a year then continue studying Architecture in Poznan , but i face some difficulties like finding a place to stay in or a room for 3 or 4 months , cause the embassy requires a forwarded deal of the place of stay , i 'd appreciate it if any one could help cause i 'm new into this , it 's my first time to travel abroad and i don't know anything

I've just arrived to Krakow for work. I've been in Krakow twice before, liked the city and now I'm going to live here. So far I only know my colleagues and that's the reason why I joined Internations. I want to get to know new people with the same interest as myself, both on a social and business level.

I'm from Stockholm, Sweden and I work in finance. I work for a big international financial company who helps people plan for their pension, university fee planning and also regular lump sum investments. I know, sounds boring but it is very important indeed. The reason why I'm here is because that we are opening a new office here in Krakow and I'm the one responsible.

I like to network and to meet with new people. Wine and dine, exercise my body and mind. And off course learn more polish because now its not even “tak sobie”. Any recommendations on polish language courses?
