Hi, A good day to everyone we are Mike and Anna, we have been in Torremolinos for the last 8 years and are looking to sell up here and move to the Tarragona area. It is OK here, the only downside is the inability to find free parking in Torremolinos in the evening and the Sea temperature, this year it was exceptionally warm. Not much of a grouse really. Health services are good and the town is kept very clean on the whole, good selection of restaurants, transport is good and cheap and the airport is less than 10 mins by car. We live in a quiet area with great views and have been (are) very happy here.

Hello am Aymar French/American,
New in the Expat.com, in Madrid for 5/6 years. Looking to meet new people, of all countries but for business interests specialy Koreans and Sudaneses.
Hoping to meet great people. Merci Julien pour ce blog!

Hi & here goes - Greetings from Scotland. We are pensioners Jim & Joyce. We have travelled widely over many years which was brought to an abrupt halt when a genetic disease overwhelmed my wife about ten years ago.

After several years of dialysis my wife, close to death was very fortunate 4 years ago to receive a kidney/liver transplant. Because of that, we thought our dream of living in the winter sun could never happen - until we discovered that Candelaria hospital,in Santa Cruz is a public hospital and has an excellent transplant unit. We visited the hospital in March and liked what we saw.

That aspect was vital,as my wife has to periodically attend clinics for ongoing check ups. The health care aspect was worrying until we met an older Scottish couple who have lived in Adeje village for 26 years and assured us that we shouldn't hesitate as they receive the best of care.

So began our adventure - possibly a last throw of the dice. We are returning shortly to try a longer stay in an apartment and to progress the learning process. Not something to be rushed into at our ages. If all goes well we will return next year and start to look for a house in earnest since it is to be a permanent move.

Currently, I am trying to learn some Spanish and not finding it easy, but French at school wasn't much easier,as I am clearly not a linguist.

So, we are presently doing as much research as we can to help us find the Way ahead. Plan to meet up with a British property agent and maybe try and contact an expat for a chat when we are staying in Los Cristianos starting mid November.

Hi my name is Daniel,

This is my first living abroad experience so I am completly new and clueless to this. I'm looking forward to chatting to you guys!

Greets!  :D

Hi there,

I'm Luis, born & bred in Spain. However I've been out of Spain for 15 years, travelling the world.

It has been not more than three weeks that I've return and found myself with absolutely no friends - as most of them live all over the world - Thus I am looking forward to meet English Speaking friends around the province of Valencia, but more specifically around the areas of Castellon & Benicassim.

So if there is anyone 'round here that would like to meet up, send me a private message :)

Cheers!

Hi, Im Andrew, just completed a degree in London as a mature student and now living with my partner in San Martin del Tesoriollo - we've had a few months break and are now looking for work, we are both willing to relocate but really love this area so would ideally love to stay put. We have already met some sharks advertising jobs with no contracts, some with bad housing attached as mandatory - now looking for a real employer with real jobs and real money :)

Hi there, this is Eva, from Spain. I've been living in Scotland for the last three years. I moved back to Madrid only a week ago. I'd love meeting native English people so I can keep improving my English or at least not to forget it. I can help you with your Spanish. There's also a comedy festival pretty soon, Dylan Moran who I saw a while ago is coming and I'd love seeing him again. I think, he's hilarious! So, if you fancy, just let me know. Eva.

Hi
I'm a widower and like the area of Mucia especially Los Alcazares.
Would love to get advice from anyone living in the area
Richard

My wife and I will be moving to the Valencia area around Jan 2016. She is a Spanish citizen and I'm a native Texan!
Looking for groups to join, doctor recommendations ( I have a lung condition), people to play music with, I play guitar and sing a little, mostly Rock, some Country and Jazz. We're retiring in Spain and looking forward to long walks on the beach and good friends

Hiya!

I'm travelling to Madrid in November for a while until i start work in Barcelona, if anyone wants to meet up!

Hello,

I am French but I will start working in Barcelona in December with Spanish people for an English company to deal with French speaking contract (and others)

(I already work for an English company in France ... but it won't be the same)

I thought that being on the French and English forum will give me even more informations :)

Nice to meet you all !

Hi all, thank you for allowing me to join your forum and for sharing your time!
I am a young 61 year old male from West Sussex England with my own electrical business.
I have spent a lot of time on Fuerteventura and have made some good friends there and very much like the Spanish people and way of life.
However, I now find myself in a situation the end result being that I am looking to take early retirement and move to mainland Spain, with a view to visit Fuerteventura and England to visit my family as and when.
I am looking at properties in the Alicante area and would like to know if there any expat communities that meet up for recreation - golf, walking, socialising, learning Spanish etc. I have seen several posts relating to this subject but nothing concrete seems to have been posted. If there is nothing in place would anyone be interested in getting together and organising something? I am also looking at properties that may need working on, would be pleased to hear any comments on this idea?
Thanks In anticipation Phil

I look forward to talking mingling with the community here, fingers crossed you forumers are fun and interesting people :-)

My wife and I just purchased property in Spain in the Murcia region between Cartegena and Murcia. We plan to move there in the near future. I currently work for the government as a clinical social worker and my wife is a nanny. We would like to work as teachers of English after we move.

Hello,

I'm Raechelle, planning to move to Spain May 2016 for max 12 months and going through the process for youth mobility visa. I would be deciding between Valencia and Sevilla to move to. I am currently working in IT Operations across projects and would be looking for work in IT otherwise open to also cooking school and teaching english :)

Any ideas or suggestions how to go about job searching is very welcome!

Thanks

Hi all. My name's Graham. I'm British but have spent the last 8+ years working in Asia, Europe (including Tenerife) and the Middle East ( :dumbom:  ) as a general and technical English teacher, but it's time to come home. I bought a house near Torrevieja last year and hope to finally move into it early in the new year.
I was a scuba instructor and have a pilot's license too, so any water/air anoraks will be good to know! I also love rock music so, again, like minded souls looking for an extra buddy would be welcome!
As an aside, if anyone hears of a language school hiring a degree/CELTA qualified teacher, I'd be grateful for a heads-up, as I can't find diddly on the net.
My Spanish has gone from passable to poo, but I reckon I can get it back without too much trouble!

Ok. Good luck everyone and maybe we'll all have a few more friends soon.

Hi everyone, my name is Jackie.
I would like to move to Spain in the future.
I'm not sure which part I would like to move to as there are so many beautiful places in Spain.  I recently visited Bilbao it's a beautiful city although I would like to live in a village in Spain. I would be interested in hearing from people who moved to Spain on their own and their experiences. I would also appreciate any suggestions on places to live in Spain.

Hi, my name is Mariska. I moved to Valencia, Spain in December 2014. So we have been living here for 11 months. I am South African. Hi Jackie.
I have been looking to buy a property in Spain for a few years now, and I thought I wanted to live a little inland as you get more for your money. But now I have just put a deposit down on a property in estepona about 3 mins from the beach, the only reason I bought this was if I lived inland and was taken ill by the time I got to hospital it might be to late......  I wanted a property that I could walk to the shop or the beach, but really think about what you need not what you want, hope this helps you.. All the best with your search .. Paul.

Hi Paul, thanks for the good advice. I will be happy once I have made a decision on where to live in Spain. Then I can start to make a plan.
Best of luck in your new home sounds lovely........Jackie

Hi Eva,

What is the difference between Galicia and Andalucia in terms of people, atmosphere, mood etc?

Hi all!!

We are Wain & Nikki from Colchester, UK

We are in the process of arranging a move from this very grey, damp and dreary land and swapping it all for the blue sunny sky's of the Costa Blanca early next year (2016)

After months and months of intensive research on the area as well as the whole of Spain I have now reached the "looking for employment" stage which as I'm sure you all know is probably the main "sticking point" for many wannabe expats moving to Spain under the current climate.

We have accumulated enough savings so far to see us comfortable to live in the Orihuela area for a year at the least without income (renting) as were not looking to commit to buying until we have had a taste of living the life first! So we are hoping that at least one of us will find a job within this time.

We both know the risk factor involved in going through with a move from the UK to Spain, one of us has actually spent 8 years living in Bigastro with our previous partner hence why our 8 year old daughter is officially a Spanish citizen having being born in Orihuela hospital!!

So, in short we are looking for any helpful advice from anyone who lives in the Orihuela and surrounding areas, maybe an offer of employment would be really good!!!! 😎

We look forward fo chatting with you all!!

Wain & Nikki xxxx

Hi Wain and Nikki,
I have a house in Orihuela Costa but, oddly, I haven't lived in yet, due to my working overseas. That said, I like the area. It has all you need and is still only 8 km from the beach (yep. I measured it).
I teach technical English and have been looking to get work "at home" for a year now - with no luck, but....you know what? I'm calling it a day in Saudi in a couple of months and I'm going home to my house. Then, I'll find work.
And I think that is the way you need to be sometimes. I don't know what you guys do, but I haven't always been a teacher and, if you can be adaptable and maybe take a punt on something, there's every chance it'll work out.
At the moment I'm trying to get my girlfriend over from Venezuela (not terribly straight forward) and between us, we'll sort something out.
Sounds morbid, but I lost a couple of friends recently (50's. Same as me) and buried my own mum last week. It had an effect on me. Live your life without worrying too much about a future that we don't really control anyway.
I'm not going to join the "Ooooh, are you really sure about this" brigade. I'm in the "GO FOR IT" camp!

Maybe, when you're settled and I'm back, we can meet for a beer and chat.
By the way, there are some cracking bargains for property around our way too! Makes a change from Essex!

Good luck and let us all know how you get on.

Graham

Hey Graham!

Thankyou for your reply 😊

Firstly we would like to send you our deepest sympathies, we can only imagine the pain you are feeling right now and our thoughts are with you.

You had me at "beer!!" 👍 lol

That sounds like a very good plan that we would be more than happy to take you up on once were all "over there".

Unfortunately when it comes to our "professions" the only skills I have to offer are 20+ years in the double glazing and glass industry ranging from hand glass cutting to the dreaded salesman for some of the biggest DG companies in the UK! Very boring! I also have lots of experience as a port plant operator but I very much doubt that will be of any use in the area were looking at!
As for my lovely wife, well she's the ex-expat as she lived there from 2001 to 2008 and worked for most of that time as a waitress at a place called "Nautilus" in Punta Prima.

You couldn't be more right about property prices!! We are currently private renting a small 3 bed house in Colchester for £700 per month (and that's bloody cheap!!) the equivalent in Orihuela would cost around £350 per month maximum and that's with a community swimming pool, not to mention sunshine and blue flag beaches just down the road!!!

We're keeping our fingers crossed that you get your partner over to Spain with you without too much trouble very soon!!

Stay in touch

Wain & Nikki

Hi

My name is Michelle. I am looking at moving to Murcia to teach in September 2016.

I am taking a holiday in the region this month to have a look around.

Just wondered if anyone else has moved to Murcia on this forum to teach in an English school and how you are finding it?

Thanks

Hi, I'm Murat from Turkey.  I would like to move to Spain in the future. It would be great to hear the experiences about there.
