Working as a freelancer in Zambia

Hi,

A lot of expats dream of becoming self-employed: we would like to help you to make that dream come true.

Can foreigners work as self-employed in Zambia? What are the formalities to work as a freelancer?

What are the pros and cons of this status: social security, tax system, etc.?

How is the freelance market in Zambia?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience,

Kenjee

Dear

Good question. I am engineer / manager graduated from Italy UK and Switzerland in complementary disciplines (agricultural, mechanical, water & sanitation, civil construction, social infrastructure) and 40 years of working experiences in different continents. Specifically, I lived and worked as engineer/manager in Southern Africa (Mozambique, Angola, Malawi and DRC) almost 20 years and although sometime it is hard living I loved it. I left that part of the world some years ago regretting it.
I arrived in Zambia last January working for about 7 months and I decided to stay by myself and start to work as self-employed. I did not managed at all and I left the Country this May, my explanation is that the society in Zambia is hermetic and the job is coming only trough friendships. Pity!
