Volunteering in the USA

Hi,

While living abroad, some expats wish to get involved in the local community life.

What organizations expats can turn to if they want to volunteer in the USA?

How to join a charitable institution, what are the steps?

Which causes have the greatest need for volunteers in the USA?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience and advice,

Maximilien

The easiest way to get in contact is to visit and engage in one of the local churches, they also always provide s ton of volunteering possibilities.

If this is not an option, just ask around - often libraries, sporting clubs, storages, and other non-profit organizations, even healthcare institutions are thankful for a helping hand.

Or one could volunteer for the military.

Hi!
It depends on the area you live in.....
If you're around NYC, you've got after school associations that are always looking for godmothers/fathers willing to turor in sports, homeworks, cultural hangouts, with kids/scholars, etc...
Around damaged areas you can look at the Red Cross activities or step by your city hall and inquire a bit about who's doing what!
In California, many "Green" associations organize workshops...
Also, if you're an expat, your company might have listed local associated associations.

Have fun!
