Cost of living in the Samoa

Hi everybody,

It would be very useful to talk about the cost of living in the Samoa.

Don't forget to mention where in the Samoa you are living.

How much does it cost to live in the Samoa?

> accommodation prices

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc ...)

> food prices(per month, how much does it cost you?)

> health prices (for those who need medical insurance)

> eduction prices (if you need to pay)

> energy prices (oil, electricity)

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone)

> prices of a good menu in a traditional restaurant

> prices of a beer and or a coffee in a regular pub

> price of the cinema

Do not hesitate to add items to this list!

Thanks in advance for your participation!!

I'm finding it difficult to get any real info on living in Samoa.. how to get accommodation etc. I have heard that it's possible to rent an apartment in Apia but now I don't know how to find out any mor details.
Any info would be helpful about renting longterm (say 6-12 months) in Apia or anywhere on Upoulu
Thanks.. Bronwyn

Can anyone help with this info?  Going to be living in Samoa for a while and not finding much info!

My wife Karla and I have lived in American Samoa for a year now and we spend right around 3k USD per month.
We eat out 2 -3 times per month then it's usually KFC or one of a few Chinese joints.
We spend $500 per month on rent for an unfurnished house on the beach, it's just over 1 hr from Tafuna, 1/2 hr from Pago
Even though Karla is in charge of shopping I can give some current prices:
Gas       $4.15 per gallon (down from $4.45)
Kerosene  $5.10 per gallon
Bread     $1.10 per loaf
Potatoes .79 per lb
Butter    $3.48 per lb
Rice      $.82  per lb
Fish      $3.50  per lb
eggs      $1.95 per dozen
Shirt     $15.00
Bus to Pago $1.50 the last time I took one was about 4 months ago
I forget the cost of a movie it seems like it was about $7 per person.
