It would be very useful to talk about the cost of living in Guyana.

Don't forget to mention where in Guyana you are living.

How much does it cost to live in Guyana?

> accommodation prices

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc ...)

> food prices(per month, how much does it cost you?)

> health prices (for those who need medical insurance)

> eduction prices (if you need to pay)

> energy prices (oil, electricity)

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone)

> prices of a good menu in a traditional restaurant

> prices of a beer and or a coffee in a regular pub

Do not hesitate to add items to this list!

Thanks in advance for your participation!!

hi, Again I, if someone knows something that answers in honor to the information

nobody here from guyana?

Not sure of the currency you need but I have used Guyana dollars. If you want to convert to US$ you can use this simple rule of $G200 = $US1 or you can convert by checking out the 4 major currencies from the Bank of Guyana website.

Gas is used for cooking not heating. A 20 lb cylinder could last a family of 4 -one month at $3200.

Electrical - average consumption in low range is $5,000.

Telephone - depends on your consumption. Landlines are cheap but depends on which village of origin and destination. The most is $7. per minutes.

Cell phone range from $27 to $37 per minutes depending on Cellink - Digicel / vice versa.

Television/Cable - no cost for tv. There are cable providers. but have no idea cost.

Car purchase - average a minimum of $1.5 million for a reconditioned Japanese import.

Fuel for car - $800 per gallon a week but this fluctuates.

Doctor visit - GP visit $2000-$3000 consulation. Specialist are $3000-$4000 and up.

Dentist usually no consultation but not sure of cost for a visit. It is expensive like every other country.

Taxes on goods 16% on value added tax applied at the register on sales. 0% on items such as basic foodstuffs and pharmacauticals, baby products.

Income Tax - the first $35,000. is not taxed. Then 33 1/3% tax - similar to canada.

Internet cost DSL $15,000 sign up fee then a rate of about $10,000 to $33,000 depending on download speed. Dialup is $5,800 monthly unlimited then a limited access plan for less.

There is a really good book out from Lonely Planet on Guyana. It is worth getting as it has some average costs of meals, accomodations, sights, attractions.

These costs are not official but gathered from Guyanese friends. What the income for an expat and a Guyanese person makes can be extreme.
