You're applying for a position of lecturer and don't know about references ?

references are the people you have worked in your previous organizations, HOD of your previous university, those who can be contacted by the current employers to know about you ,,, Hope its clear ???

It is also quite likely that since you're applying for a lecturer's posting at a university, that they are looking for references from OTHER UNIVERSITIES where you've already had experience.
