Rapid-fire Questions from First-time Nomad looking to move

Hey all,

If you are familiar with first-person gaming, rapid-fire is when you click the mouse once and your gun shoots on auto all the time, so I figured I'd ask just about every question I can to help me make the move to Mauritius (aka "rapid-fire questions").

Please answer whatever you can by quoting the question number with your answer:

eg. [1] you can surf [here] and [here]

So here are my questions:

1) Where is the best place to stay that has reasonably fast fibre internet, is close to a masjid/mosque, close to a beach and has access to places where I can buy groceries/household-items?

2) Do any of the islanders get together during the week/weekend to play some beach football/volleyball? If so, where?

3) Will I fit in and be able to find friends/colleagues to hang with as an English speaker?

4) I don't drink (see 1), so are there night-time activities that don't involve alcohol, etc. ?

5) Will a Vespa and/or bicycle be adequate to get around? I am looking to maintain a low carbon footprint and want to avoid having to maintain a car

6) Is beach gear affordable for water-sports? I'd like to buy a surfboard and/or try kite-surfing + other watersport activities

7) Are there any co-working spaces in Mauritius? I'd like to meet other digital nomads to network with

8) If I leave not very-valuable items on the beach (eg. sandals, towel) is there a chance that somebody might steal it while I'm in the water?

9) Is Halaal meat accessible at butchers/shops?

10) Will it be weird if I (male) tried yoga on the beach? (hehe :D)

I think I've asked about all the questions I can think of. Some are weird, but if you can answer it, it will be appreciated.

Also, if you are a friendly/networking person, please PM me so we can meet for coffee/drinks when I do finally arrive :P

Thanks all <3

Looking forward to hear a good news from you soon

Thank you very much Have an awesome day .

Best Regards

Hi and Welcome :)
I cannot answer all your questions but can try to answer a few :)

3. Most people here speak English so you should have no problem
4. There are many clubs and pubs around the Island, just because they sell alcohol, does not mean you cannot go there and meet new friends, just don't drink ;) We have Muslim friends who do not drink and they socialise in Pubs and at dinners just without drinking
5. Lots of people ride Bikes and scooters, you just have to be very very careful as the driving is a little erratic here and don't get behind a bus cause then you will see lts carbon footprint ;)
6. I think it is affordable, also you can buy 2nd hand, usually from people leaving the Island, keep an eye on classified on here and also the local newspaper Lex Express or check out the Surf shops notice boards
8. Never heard of anyone having their towels etc stolen from the beach whilst they are in the water - we often leave our bags, car keys, etc on the beach while in the sea, just cover them with a towel.
9. Halaal meat is available all over the Island including supermarkets :(
10. Lots of men do Yoga, there are Yoga groups all over the Island

If you knew whereabouts you would be living on the Island, then some of the questions could be answered more easily and you will find many friends here as people are very friendly.
Good luck :)
