Cost of living in Congo

Hi everybody,

It would be very useful to talk about the cost of living in Congo.

Don't forget to mention where in Congo you are living.

How much does it cost to live in Congo?

> accommodation prices

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc ...)

> food prices(per month, how much does it cost you?)

> health prices (for those who need medical insurance)

> eduction prices (if you need to pay)

> energy prices (oil, electricity)

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone)

> prices of a good menu in a traditional restaurant

> prices of a beer and or a coffee in a regular pub

> price of the cinema

Do not hesitate to add items to this list!

Thanks in advance for your participation!!

Living in Congo is expensive.

Apt with one room 1.6M XAF (3.2K USD)

Food in grocery stores (only two "good ones" in town) around two or three times higher.

Meals in a regular restaurant can be up to 15,000 xaf (30 usd), you can spend more if you go to a fancy restaurant where a meal for two can be easily 70,000 xaf (140 usd @ sea club)

Health prices are of course expensive, and if you end up in the hospital and you dont speak french you can end three days for a skin allergy, and paying up to 3000 euros

Internet, slow connection you have to pay 150,000 a month, and installation services (i.e. router) are charge separately .

There is no cinema in PNR, and it will take years before someone dare to build one, not enough market for it.

Beers, if you go to a PUB they vary from 3,000 to 5,000 xaf, for a Heineken, local beer is cheaper.

Hotels are quite expensive, no less than 60,000, and quality is not so good, there are only two ro three with european quality but for example madiba, one night is aournd 400 usd.

Hope these numbers help
