Taiwanese cuisine

Hi,

When living abroad, tasting the local cuisine is part of discovering the country.

What is your favorite food in Taiwan?

What is the local speciality?

Share with us the local tastes of Taiwan and why not your best recipe.

Thank you in advance,

Priscilla

Hi Priscilla!  Interesting question.  I am unusual for a  foreigner, so my favorite food is the Jue Xie Gao or translated, Pig's Blood Cake.  It's supposedly one of the weirdest foods in the world.  Personally, I don't find it all that weird.  I really like it deep fried.  As to some of the local specialities, they are Pig's Blood Cake, Chou Dou Fu (Stinky Tofu), and Dan Bing (egg pancake is how it is normally translated.)  There are lots of other famous specialities.  Most places in Taiwan are each known for a different speciality.  It's not unusual for co-workers to bring the specialty back after a trip to the area for everyone to try.

If you want to know the top two specialities for Native Taiwanese food, I would have to say that would be roasted mountain pig and the rice wine.  Great stuff and worth the trip to a village in the middle of Taiwan to try it!
