Things to do in Papua New Guinea during the weekends

Hi,

What do you usually do on your weekends in Papua New Guinea?

Are there any places to visit, any activities, any events or festivals regularly organized you would like to recommend?

What are your top tips for the weekend in Papua New Guinea?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience, ;)

Christine

Member Clubs - In Port Moresby there is the Royal Papua Yacht Club and the Aviat Club. Both require membership but offer activities for members such as raffles, childrens playgrounds, Aviat has a large pool. Both have pool/snooker tables also. The Yacht Club has small clubs in the grounds such as a Gym, Sailing Club, Fishing Club and Diving Club.

If you travel towards Sogeri you can visit the Varirata National Park. There are some bush walks plus places to picnic and BBQ. Continue on towards Sogeri and there is a few places to dine and relax, such as the Kokoda Trail Hotel. You can also drive out to Ower's Corner, the start of the Kokoda Trail and picnic out there. There is also the Koitaki Club, K50 entry per car unless you are a member. Food and a bar is available, plus a large pool. Members can also go horse riding, quad bike rides or camp or stay overnight in a cabin.

Loloata Island - about 20-30min drive out of Pom there is Loloata Island. This is a resort that offers relaxing, diving, snorkeling and more. It is currently close for renovations however. http://www.loloata.com/

There are more clubs around, such as diving, Va'a, kitesurfing, dirt bike riding, sports. Talk to other expats and you will find someone knows who to talk to to join or learn more.
