Moving to Montevideo, Uruguay

Hello,

My partner and I are looking into moving to Montevideo, Uruguay.  We currently live in Granada, Nicaragua. I wanted to get more information on cost of living. I hear you have to either have a guarantor or about 5 months rent upfront as a deposit.

I wanted to know if you know of any apartments that don't need to have such a large deposit and pet friendly(we have a small cat)
Also my partner and I both work online. How is internet coverage there?

Any, information you have would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance!

Yes you need a five month deposit plus one month more if you use a realtor.  The money goes into a bank used for this purpose.
You probably won't qualify for the other types of programs such as ANDA as you need local income and have to have worked there for 1 - 2 years and be a permanent resident.

If you take a short term place then you may not need such a large deposit but the rent will probably be higher.

Internet is fine in MVD.

Cost of living is relatively expensive

Consumer Prices in Uruguay are 27.71% higher than in Nicaragua
Consumer Prices Including Rent in Uruguay are 42.87% higher than in Nicaragua
Rent Prices in Uruguay are 141.50% higher than in Nicaragua
Restaurant Prices in Uruguay are 120.99% higher than in Nicaragua
Groceries Prices in Uruguay are 22.82% higher than in Nicaragua

If you are paid in US dollars that is a plus as the peso here has dropped a lot against the dollar and is expected to drop even more by next year but inflation is 8 - 10% per year.
