New employer keep changing job dates

Hi, I was offered and accepted a job offer in April of this year ( wine trade ) in Abu Dhabi, with an intended start date of 2nd week May, this has now been changed 3 times!! We're now looking at Aug 1st. I was told to hand in my notice end of April, which I did, and also sold my car etc...ready for impeding leaving date.  I have now emailed the company asking for a 'retainer/good will' payment as I have lost earnings and sold my car etc, but they have flat right refused stating that they are paying out 3m+ on this new venture, so I should appreciate this fact.
Do I tell them to 'stick their job'? Or is this normal protocol, if so, are they likely to be just as obstinate when/if I am out there?
