Looking for a GP

I'm looking for a female GP.  She should have a good command of English and be located in the vicinity of Nasr City. If you know a good male GP please also respond.

I don think in Egypt you may find this concept of GP.

In the Netherlands we call it a house doctor. A doctor you go to for colds, flues etc., general illnesses. A doctor you go to before you see a specialist. Nothing like that in Cairo?

This is what I mean:
Unlike other physicians who specialize in treating one particular organ or disease, your family physician is uniquely trained to care for you as a whole person, regardless of your age or sex. In addition to diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses, your family physician provides routine health screenings and counseling on lifestyle changes in an effort to prevent illnesses before they develop. And, if a health condition arises that requires care from another specialist, your family physician will be there to guide you and to coordinate all aspects of your care. You and your family physician will work together to achieve the best possible outcome in the most cost-effective manner.

No hun. Egypt it's famous due to its pyramids. The other things.......sucks. Are you sick? Pay for your consult, call someone to drive you and God only knows how things are going.

Have you considered contacting your embassy as they often have lists of doctors, lawyers etc.

The concept of GP is only present in the primary care units in suburbs and smaller cities and villages, and they are only fresh grads, not senior GP's, as in egypt this phase ends after 2 years when the doctors get recruited in a masters program. So no, there are no GP's of high expertise in Egypt, unless they are the following:

Working with an embassy.
Working in an hotel.
Have a masters in internal medicine but prefer to work as a family doctor.

I know a young family female doctor with perfect command of english and german. But i think she works in the cairo university only, as part of her specialty training. I could ask her for you if she works privately and get back to you.

Hi,

My wife is a practicing British GP. We just moved here to Madinaty near ElShouroq a couple of weeks ago from the UK/USA. She's considering opening up an office here but we really don't know what the demand is for something like this. Are there enough westerns here to make it worth it for us to buy her an office to set up times for appointments?

Thank you,

Mr. K

A GP (or a family physician) has a very vital role in the medical corps. But unfortunately since people stopped using primary care units in egypt, this culture faded.

I really wish that there are enough people (foreingers or not) who can appreciate such profession, if you decided to open an office. But more importantly, is proving the importance, and reinstilling the premise of a family physician.

You need to study such need by doing a survey or something. It will not be easy, but i really do wish you good luck.

It's clear you never had a GP living outside Egypt. Cheers!

GPs are available in emergency units in every single hospital in Egypt. They do house visits. Just contact any hospital near you and ask for a GP to do a house visit. Its pretty simple.
And to answer posters saying there are no GPs available, every single medical doctor has to go through a two year compulsory as a GP.
please know what you are talking about before giving incorrect info. Ppl on forums take all advices and info to be true.
