For Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Adult: $2.50 Senior/Child: $1.75 Student:$2.50
Bus to airport, use MetroX. Adult: $3.50 Senior/Child: $2.75 Student:$3.50

-- Apartment rentals --
Depending on location
Average price downtown core (per mth) *Note: can be higher for higher end apartments,
1 bedroom apartment btw 800-1100
1 bedroom 1 den btw 1200 - 1800
2 bedroom btw 1500 - 2200
Prices are cheaper in the suburbs

-- Home Prices --
Houses in suburbs (approx btw 8 - 20 km from downtown)
20 to 30 year detached can cost up to $300K
New (0-10yrs) homes (detached) average $450K - $600K
New (0-10yrs) town houses / semi detached average btw $200K - $380K
Houses in downtown are range from 600K - over a million
Apartments in downtown range from 300K upwards. You may get it lower for older or run down ones.
Mortgage on a 360K home can come up to $1400/mth plus minus 200 - which will come up the same thing if one rents a 2 bedroom apartment in downtown

-- Medical --
If you're a resident (PR or work permit), student (after a year), citizen of Canada - FREE with MSI (Medical Services Insurance)

-- Eating out --
Average low of 10/person to 20/person depending on how posh the restaurant is

-- Coffee --
Average of $1.80 for a regular to $2.20 sometimes

-- Energy --
For a 860 sq ft apartment, with electricity for heat, average at $50/mth (paid to Nova Scotia Power. It is a monopoly). If the heat in your place is powered by oil, be ready to pay more!!

-- Education (Tertiary) --
You don't want to know... VERY Expensive!!! 2nd most expensive province in the country for fees after Ontario....

-- HST (short for Harmonized Sales Tax which is the combined federal and provincial sales tax) --
High of 15%

-- Food (monthly) --
Depends on how you eat!!! If you go for No Frills, Walmart, Superstore and on the cheap, you can go as low as 100-150 / mth for 2 person. But if you go for gluten-free, farmers market, CSA type food, you can go as high as $300 or more...

-- Cinema tickets --
You go to Cineplex and pay btw, $12 for hit shows on a normal days (everyday except Tuesdays) or more sometimes. Tuesdays are cheaper by half - $7

> energy prices (oil, electricity) = Family of 4 average $60 - $80 per month each utility

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone) = Expensive, family bundle average $300 per month
