Hiya,

I have lived here for a few years, just outside Pattaya, working and enjoying this sunshine, beats back home by miles!
I think it's quite a cool place to live, all craziness aside, pretty good shopping, and a few nice restaurants.
Quite a lot of old guys where I live so don't get much company from younger peeps.

Could go for a nice cuppa ?

Hi there
In the past 7 years, I've been to Thailand 4 times and since the first time I touched down in Thailand, it's always been my dream to live there. I am a Financial/ Admin/ HR/ Accounts Manager for 5 small integrated companies and have been doing this work for 15 years now. I need a change of pace/ scene. Can someone please chat to me one-on-one about how to go about moving my life to Thailand??
I love writing, reading, socialising, outdoor life, music, dancing, etc. I would love to freelance and am avidly looking for freelance work while I'm busy sorting my life out here in South Africa. I am hoping to freelance full-time by the time I am ready to leave my old life behind. Can someone please contact me for a one-on-one?
Thanks

Hi,

We living mow for the 5 year in thailand and have a company here. I can only tell you, this is not easy. Special whenn you look to the different with Europe.
First of all; they love documents here. It is not the same as in Europe. If you go to bank to open an account, you see already the different. They still work a lot with papers. So less computerwork. So you have to full forma and application a lot. They love it. They still work with bankbook, etc.
I dont know where you are original from, and what's your age.
Also working with staff is very difficult. The only thing they know very well is Labour. You have to be very carefull with this. So if you like to start a company; think twice.
Go with holliday and living here is a big different.
Only living is ok , but if you like to work, you need a bussenis visa and a workpermit . If you do this by a company you pay about 30000 Baht. and a lot of documents. Only stay you need also documents and money, and an insurance.
I would advice, if you like to move over to Thailand, take good information on internet. There is a lot to find about this

regards,
Nicole

Hi Nicole :)
Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated. I am from South Africa where we are a nation of pencil pushers lol. We have lots of paperwork here too so I'm quite used to that. But I am not looking to open my own business. I want to freelance in the admin/ blogging/ writing area so that I can work independently at home, in my own time.
Can you tell me how you guys went about moving to Thailand??? And where are you from originally?
Wasima

Hi everyone,

I'm Alex from Seattle. Looking forward to getting to know you guys!

just move to pattaya, let's hang out!

@ Wasima > I think that it would be best if you can start up a new thread and to ask your questions please as this topic has been created for the introduction of the new members only. :)

Thank you

Priscilla

HI Priscilla

Yes, I also think that's a good idea.

Thanks

Hello everyone!
I am from Slovenia and I work in Sales in Thailand.

Hi everyone,
I am from London and have been teaching in Bangkok for the last 1.5 years. I teach HIgh school kids during the week and adults at language school at the weekend.
I am looking to do something similar in HCMC, Vietnam but can't seem to find a site like ajarn.com over there.
vietnamteachingjobs.com only lists language schools and I would really like to work for a High School over there.
Any advice would be appreciated, ie. living and working in Vietnam, teaching in Vietnam, difficulties getting work permit etc.
Kind regards
Dave Murphy :)

Hi there,

My name is Tarn. I am native Thai. I was born and raised in Huahin, Prachuapkirikhun. Then I moved to Bangkok to further my education. After completed my bachelor's degree , I was working as an auditor for a year then left Bangkok for New York, USA. I was living in there for two years therefore i saw a lot of differences between my culture ( Thai) and western culture. I would like to share some stories and tips to foreigners or expats who would like to come to Thailand or who want to live here.

(Moderated: please post in the Language classes in Thailand section)

Thank you!
Tarn

Well, after joining Expat-blog in December I am finally getting around to writing something and building this blog site apart from the Facebook crowd.  Before arriving in Thailand in Jan. 2008 I was living in San Francisco since 1989.  But my thoughts and dreams of retiring in Asia were planted in 1971 when I first arrived in Viet Nam as a soldier.  For the next year and a half I discovered a world I never knew existed.  And I was smitten by the country, attitudes, and, above all, the people living there.

In 2006 my 34 year marriage to a vietnamese woman I met during my time in "the war", ended.  Now I am happy to enjoy life with a lovely filipina. We have been together since 2008 and were married in 2012.  Living in Bangkok was never really planned nor anticipated. But it was where she has worked as a teacher since 2006 so I had no trouble joining her there.

But my heart still cried out for Viet Nam.  Now, nearly eight years after moving to Asia, we are planning to be living in Hanoi in July this year.  Thailand has been an education but not as fruitful as I would have hoped. Seeing it only as a "settle" to replace Viet Nam has not worked out at all.  So, if all goes well, it will be "Good bye, Thailand" and "Gooood Morning, Viet Nam"!

We are original from Belgium. We move to thailand, because we have long history with Thailand.

Hi.. im from Singapore n would love to meet fellow sporeans here..

Good Luck to your new adventures in Vietnam, I would like to know more about that country, where is a safe community to live, with a pool & close to the beach for swimming. I have yet to visit, mostly because of the information that we get that parts of that country don't like Americans, and that they eat dogs stollen from Thailand, skined alive, and boiled. I have heard that it may only be the poor area's but still I don't know what I would do it I saw a open truck with cages crammed with live & dead dogs, they can't move or breath, and many of these dogs are people's pets. That along is reason enough not to visit Vietnam.

Hello everyone! I'm Thai but I had been living aboard. So I kindda lost connection with old friends. I'm hoping to make new friends again. I'm easy going, friendly. I like to travel, beauty, dressup, go out and exercise. Ideally looking for female friends who's in same position and same interests. Nice to meet u! 😄
