Cost of living in Namur

It would be interesting to exchange on the cost of life in Namur, so that future expats in Namur can make a budget!

For a start, we thing about the cost of:

- accomodation (appartment, or house)
- water and electricity
- public transport (metro, bus or taxi)
- monthly household shopping
- average price for bread, butter, milk, eggs, kg of meat...
- medical insurance
- visit to the house doctor
- school fees (specify which school)
- petrol
- average price of a good menu in a traditional restaurant
- a beer or a coffee in a bar or pub
- a cinema ticket

and of course, if you think I forgot an important point, just add it up!

Thanks for your participation smile

Re: Cost of living in Namur

Hello! I am living in Namur for almost 5 months now and can help in answering a few of the above questions:

- accomodation (appartment, or house)
-> 2BHK, around 650 Euros
- water and electricity
-> Water + Gas + Electricity -> 100-150 Euros. Have to get subscription with companies like Electrabel for monthly deductions.
- public transport (metro, bus or taxi)
-> Bus only -> standard 1.8 Euros within the town.
- monthly household shopping
-> For 2 people around 150 Euros
- average price for bread, butter, milk, eggs, kg of meat...
-> Bread from bakery -> 2-3 Euros, Milk -> around 1 Euro/ltr, Eggs-> 5 Euros per dozen (BIO shops), Chicken -> 7-9 Euros/Kg
- medical insurance
-> Mutualite Chretienne -> 30 Euros quaterly, Private Insurance -> 10 Euros/month
- visit to the house doctor
-> didn't have to till now ;-). But it is expensive and the initial payment has to be done by you and later part of it is reimbursed by the medical insurance.
- school fees (specify which school)
-> No kids :-P
- petrol
-> I use public transport so no idea. But I guess it is same as anywhere in Europe.
- average price of a good menu in a traditional restaurant
-> 25 Euros/person
- a beer or a coffee in a bar or pub
-> Beer -> 1-5 Euros, Coffee -> 2-5 Euros
- a cinema ticket
-> Only French dubbed movies here so had to go to Brussels (Kinepolis) to watch Original Version movies with French/Dutch subtitles.

Hope the information helps :-)!
