A little help for job seekers

Looking for a job is a pain most of the time and probably all of us have gone through this phase-or still going. My notes below is not the secret of a magic but if it increases your chances of finding a job even by %5, then it achieves the purpose.



*Create more than one CV

Your background might be suitable for more than one job position and you probably apply for different kind of jobs. But, dont do that with the same cv. Create more than one. Modify your CV for different positions. I  dont mean you exaggerate or misinfo anything but you might have to mention your different experiences for different jobs.
Furthermore, if you see a job post that you really really want to get, you can even create a CV for this job only and you can highlight your experiences matching with the job position.You may say "hey, I write everything in one CV then it works for all applications". Yes but no at the same time. Because you should keep your CV as simple and short as possible.

I have vitnessed a company owner going through CVs and he only got 1 minute for each CV. No more.


*Use linkedin

Dont just stuck with HR web sites. Sad but true, you have a small chance to be realized between tons of candidates-unless if you are a key person with unique abilities.To be honest, it never ever worked for me. So linkedin is a good alternative to be in touch with head hunters also with HR executives of companies. Linkedin is the facebook of business life and you connect with people directly. You will discover more once you sign up.


*Search for companies from your own country

Think of big holdings and companies of your country. Do they have a facility or office in Turkey? If they do, it is most probably in İstanbul. Try contacting them by phone, e-mail. You can even do the first touch through HQ office which is in yor country. I believe that people from same nationalites intend to help eachother.

*Socialise, Get to know more people

Connections matter in business life in every country but believe me it matters more in Turkey. If you are friends with right people, then your chances are up. So try making more friends, especially local friends. Organise meetups. Dont forget, host is allways more remembered than guests. And dont hesitate to tell your friends that you are looking for a job. Tell them about your background, what you are capable of doing, your past work experiences etc.
