rent almost 3000SAR a decent flat per month

transport if you dont have car you dont have life in saudia

malls are ok bt not like dubai.

1. It depends on you whether you want to travel daily from jeddah to rabigh (as its 150 km far).
2. You will get a house in rabigh of 2 bedrooms, lounge, drawing room with 9000 Sr (6 months rent)
3. There is no public transport system in rabigh, you can get taxi in jeddah.
4. There are some decent indian schools in rabigh, hospitals are good only for small issues not for surgeries. Dont know situation in in KAEC.
5. There is only 1 mall in rabigh.. rabigh mall others are only local shops.

me and ayin and rizal all from malaysia and thinking seriously moving to rabigh - same crew.

Few question for any of you here.

1. how much for a house or apartment 2BR in rabigh?
2. is there any house / villa / landed house for rent? whats the rental fare like?
3. all these need iqama (which took 3 months they say) where are we going to crash in that time period? how do you guys there survive?
4. same goes with cars which need iqama too..how are we going to travel around before that...

this issues keep bugging my head.

we need a friend to help us out - arabic language anyone? giJoe? saleemarafth? bazinga? chaudary? any saudis here willing to help out.

schooling for kids is another issue. i dont mind using indian syllabus for my kids. i need to know what do they teach for kids at primary schools. the subjects. the fees. anyone can advise?

all these keep me scared to the bone.

I would like to thanks all of you for sharing your views on different-2 topics which really help all to know more about a specific location or situation.

I am a Project Engineer- Mechanical in Mumbai- India, and recently got an offer from Rabigh refinery. Have few queries regarding the offer and mainly accommodation:

1. I have not been provided accommodation in township. Is there any expat compounds in Rabigh city and can any one suggest good compound in rabigh city with approx budget?
2. Any Idea of apartments in KAEC?
3. I am having ~9 years of exp and have been offered E12 grade. what is the typical range of salary for Asian engineers having this much exp?

Any suggestions/comments will help me to makeup my mind.

I can understand your concern, but don't worry - only the best and the brave will come here and I am sure all of you are up for this challenge. I cannot really specifically answer your question (1) and (2) since I am in Riyadh but will share my experience in general for question (3) and (4).

3. Iqamah may take up to 3 months, yes its true but in many case it only take 2 weeks. Mine too. Unless if you visa stated you are an "engineer", you will be alright. If your visa stated "engineer" then you will be in deep sh*t as you need to register with Saudi Engineering Council (or something like that...) before you iqamah can be processed. For that, it will takes time and need to submit the required documents. That is why, experienced visa agent will try to put you under position other than engineer i.e. chemist, specialist, consultant, executive, analyst, technician, advisor etc.

Also during this period, my employer provided hotel accomodation until you get your iqamah. I know one of my colleague stayed in the hotel around 6 weeks waiting for iqamah. But you still have to look for accomodation (privately rent or compound if entitle during this period) because as soon as you get the iqamah, you will be kicked out from hotel... haha. Except for certain things, the hotel is fully paid by employer including meals and laundry.

4. Apply for International Driving Permit (IDP) before you come here just in case, because you can use this to rent a car until you get your Iqamah. As soon as you get your Iqamah, your IDP or driving licence is no longer valid and you must immediately apply for Saudi driving licence.

In my case, as soon as I get my iqamah, I went to recruitment and they assigned someone to send me to driving license place to take the test etc. Again, you need certain document for this (and money to pay...) i.e. document showing your blood type. In my case, I went to recruitment to get 'extract' from medical report for blood type test evidence. Otherwise, you have to go to hospital again just for that....

Driving here is a hair-raising experience... . But that should be discussed separately in another forum....

Arabic? I don't know any of it and so far I survive with only English. Don't worry, you will have a lot of funny moment to remember later on trying to communicate with locals... 

Ohyes, almost forgot about education fees. Not sure about PRR but I think you should be informed by your recruitment (at job offer stage...) on how much maximum SAR per year and how many kids are covered and from/to what age. In my case, my employer use international school fees as benchmark for maximum, and if you want to send to other school (American or British etc.), you will have to pay the difference.

They key point here, take it easy, DON'T RUSH THINGS and everything will fall into place several weeks later. The rule of the game here is different so try not to push or apply your 'logic' or common sense from your country over here. Keep cool but persistent, and continue communicating with your recruitment office and don't be shy to ask question and seek help. Once you get your first non-taxable paycheck later, you will laugh at yourself for worrying about peanuts....

I am considering an offer from Rabigh and would learn about little more about housing and schooling options. I heard a good deal about King Abdullah Economic City as the preferred place for expats, I was wondering if anyone on this forum can share insight into;

a) Cost of a 3 bed room flat or a villa
b) Cost of Western Schools
c) Cost of a large SUV/Truck i.e. Toyota Sequoia or GMC Yukon

Also, It would be cool to hear a recent experience on the Move to Rabigh?

I lived in rabigh 7 monthes, after my husband commuted for one year from jeddah to rabigh daily.
As for commuting, it's not the best idea, gets really tiresome. And jeddah housing is much morw expensive than rabigh, and anyways its close, you can visit jeddah at anytime.
Rabigh is very small, there's only one park for families, one mall with 2 main stores, city max and red tag. They have a beautifull souq, cheap stuff everywhere....we stayed at the el baiad hotel, or smth like that, because we couldnt find a decent flat.
Recently they opened panda, and you can fimd some other smaller supermarkets.
They also have a beautiful beach.

If you're lucky to find something clean rent is around 20.000 /year. We did not find and also we didn't plan to stay that long so we took a furnished flat in el bayan hotel, right in the souq, in the same building with the telephones mall. You have everything there, including washimg machine' but semi-automatic' , kitchen, furnished bedrooms with plasma tv and living room. The rent was bit more pricey, i believe around 4000 sar/ month.
I dont believe you can find furnished flats, unless they are in hotels

What you suggest? How much an unfurnished reasonable flat will cost?

Unfurnished good flat is 18000-20000 sar per year. There are with 15000 sar aswel but very bad. With 6000-7000 you would buy the furniture. But if your budget allows you, go for furnished hotel flats.

Hello All, I also signed an offer to work at Petro Rabigh. Doing all the paperwork now to move there. The recruiter told me the Petro Rabigh community accommodation is currently full and there is a waiting list to join.
I believe I will take one of those serviced hotels, I have seen various online. My concern is the transportation. Does the company offer any transportation/is public transportation available or are you on your own for that?

Hey there you are welcome and i guess i can help you with some tips. Rabigh is considered a small city there are most facilities here you got small malls and shopping centers, hospitals, fast food restaurants and schools. But i'm not sure about the quality of schools here. Actually you can get a 3 bedroom apartment for like 1500 sar unfurnished.
KAEC would be a better option for you and your family if you can afford to pay for rental there. I used to live in KAEC few months ago and i moved to Rabigh recently. KAEC is much more free place to live especially for your kids they got more space and KAEC community is really healthy for a family. Rental in KAEC for a 3 bedrooms ranges from 40 k to 60 k per year so there's a huge difference compared to rabigh.
Regarding transportation means it's really hard to find cabs in Rabigh but I guess there's Careem in KAEC. So better to clarify this issue with your company before you land here.

My family will be staying in Dubai, I will move on my own. So looking for a one bedroom apartment or similar. I will check what is available at KAEC. The company mentioned they will assist in finding accommodation. I just want to avoid long commutes.

No man I work at king Abdullah port near petro rabigh. But I guess careem isn't available all time even it's easy to get a driving licence here and rent a car temporary. You can rent a car for like 2k per month.
